Chapter 197 He is Such a Jerk

'Matthew is such a jerk.' Mary cursed inwardly.

After everything that had happened, he could still say such things with a straight face..

Mary took a deep breath. "Aren't you going to the office?"

Feeling a bit let down, Matthew glanced at her, said nothing, and started the car.

The car ride was awkwardly silent.

By the time they got to the office, Mary had pulled herself together. She got out without looking back and walked into the building.

Matthew watched her walk away, his eyes lingering on her. Even in a simple shirt and pants, she drew him in.

It was after hours, so no one saw Mary get out of Matthew's car.

As she stepped out of the elevator, Alvin walked by. He paused, wanting to say something but held back.

Mary noticed Alvin's changed attitude but didn't care.

She planned to quit.

She'd already been kicked off the Henry Group. She finished her work and handed in her resignation.

Alvin's face froze when he saw it. "Why are you quitting?"

Mary replied, "It's in the letter."

Alvin's face darkened and thought, 'What a really crappy attitude!'

But remembering what Michael had said, he held his temper. "The CEO needs to approve this. Go wait."

Mary frowned. "Mr. Weaver, I'm just an ordinary employee. Does it really need the CEO's approval?"

Alvin snapped, "I said it does. Get out!"

Mary pursed her lips and left.

Alvin looked at the resignation letter with disgust before handing it to Michael.

Michael's face turned serious when he saw it. He went straight to the CEO's office and knocked.

"Mr. Montagu, Ms. Smith has resigned again."

Matthew was working on some documents. His face darkened. "Send her in."

Michael nodded. "Okay."

Mary had just returned to her desk when her phone rang. She picked it up. "Hello?"

Michael's voice was polite. "Ms. Smith, Mr. Montagu wants to see you."

Mary asked, "Why?"

Michael replied, "I don't know. You can ask him yourself."

His tone was very respectful.

After all, Mary was Matthew's wife. Even with their issues, they weren't divorced, so he couldn't trouble her.

Mary felt annoyed but knew she had to talk to Matthew to resign.

She hung up, took a deep breath, and headedto the CEO's office.

She knocked, and Matthew's deep voice came from inside.

"Come in."

Mary walked in. "Mr. Montagu, what do you need?"

Matthew's sharp eyes met hers. "Why do you want to resign?"

Mary said, "You don't know why?"

Matthew replied, "I don't."

Mary was speechless and mentally cursed, 'You are really driving me nuts!'

But she needed his approval, so she couldn't argue.

She looked at him. "What will it take for you to approve it?"

Matthew looked at her deeply. "Come here."

Mary frowned, feeling resistant.

Matthew put her resignation letter aside and stopped looking at her.

It was clear that if she didn't comply, he wouldn't consider her resignation.
