Chapter 680 Divorce is Inevitable

Mary's eyelashes fluttered, but she didn't say a word.

Shirley was a bit taken aback, not expecting Matthew to have such a past.

She opened her mouth to speak, but pausing, she decided to remain silent.

She just looked at Mary with concern.

The decision was up to Mary.

The air grew still.

No one knew how much time had passed when the doors to the emergency room finally opened, and Matthew was wheeled out.

Herman stepped forward and asked, "How is he?"

Mary stood up too, but as soon as she did, she swayed a bit. Shirley quickly steadied her to prevent her from falling.

The doctor said, "Two broken ribs, no other injuries. He just needs to rest and recover now."

Matthew was moved to a VIP room.

Herman arranged for a caregiver to provide round-the-clock care.

Mary stood by the bedside, gazing at the still-unconscious Matthew, and remained silent for a long time. She reached out and gently poked his face.

"Matthew, does it hurt?" Her voice was hoarse, almost inaudible.

Shirley felt a sudden pang in her heart. She blinked rapidly and said, "Mary, he's going to be okay. You should go home and freshen up a bit. You'll feel better, alright?"

"Okay."

This time, Mary nodded in agreement.

Herman looked at her, wanting to say something but held back.

Mary didn't look at him and left with Shirley.

Not long after they left, Matthew woke up. Instinctively, he searched for Mary, but saw only Herman in the room.

"Where is she?" He asked weakly.

Herman scoffed, "You're in this state and still thinking about her? She went home a while ago."

Matthew closed his eyes, his face still covered by an oxygen mask, breathing heavily. "She didn't get hurt, did she?"

"No."

Matthew's brow relaxed a bit. "That's good."

Herman stared at him for a while and said, "Matthew, is this really worth it? She didn't seem moved at all. Tomorrow's court session, you'll have to attend even if you're lying down."

Matthew closed his eyes again, not responding.

Herman sighed, "Divorce might be for the best. You two are just an unhappy couple, never content together."

Matthew remained silent.

Herman didn't say anything more, letting him rest.

Mary returned home, took a shower, and noticed some scrapes and burns on her body. She treated them briefly and felt much better.

Shirley had been waiting by the door. Seeing Mary come out looking calm, she tentatively asked, "Mary, the court session is tomorrow. Are you..."

Mary said, "I'll be there."

Shirley scrutinized her expression, trying to discern if she was serious.

Mary repeated, "I'll be there for the court session."

But Shirley couldn't quite pinpoint her feelings.

Mary was too calm, so it didn't seem normal.

She said, "Mary, it's okay to have doubts. After all, Matthew risked his life to save you..."

Mary interrupted her, "Shirley, I'm very clear-headed. Our divorce is inevitable. Even if he saved me, it doesn't change anything."

Hearing this, Shirley didn't say anything more.

The servant prepared dinner, and Mary dined quietly. Throughout the meal, she remained calm, her eyes showing no emotion.

Late at night.

A phone call came in.

Mary answered, and Herman's voice came through, "Mary, something's wrong. Matthew's running a fever, and it's not looking good."
