Chapter 500 Mary, do you dare to bet?
Mary quickly looked away.
His stare was just too much. She suddenly realized she couldn't handle it.
Better to keep some space.
They walked into the villa.
Mary glanced at Matthew and asked, "Can you tell me now?"
Matthew replied coolly, "It's an overseas virtual number. I had someone trace it, and it belongs to a bodyguard of the Montagu family."
Mary frowned, "Who told this bodyguard to send me that photo? What's the point?"
Matthew asked, "What was your first thought when you saw the photo?"
Mary bit her lip and said, "I felt bad and wanted to help him."
Matthew's tone got even colder, "But you know I won't let him go. This goes against what you want. The person who sent you the photo wants to see us fight."
Mary said, "I thought the same thing."
Matthew looked at her, surprised, "You figured that out?"
Mary said, "I'm not dumb. Plus, I think someone set me up to be locked in that warehouse before. How could it be such a coincidence that I climbed out of the window and ended up by the basement entrance?"
"Smart," Matthew praised her.
Confirming her suspicions, Mary felt a heavy weight in her heart. This meant someone was watching them, waiting for their relationship to fall apart, hoping they would turn against each other.
Who could this person be?
Matthew grabbed a bottle of wine from the cabinet, poured some into a glass, and took a sip. His sexy Adam's apple moved up and down, and his eyes grew colder.
"Mary, maybe we should put on a show."
Mary looked at him, confused, "What?"
Matthew put down the glass and walked straight to her, reaching out to hug her. As she was about to push him away, he said, "Just think, what if my house is bugged too?"
Mary's hand was already against his side. Hearing this, she relaxed and let his cool, pleasant scent surround her.
She asked softly, "What do you mean?"
Matthew's eyes darkened as he stared at her slightly reddened earlobe and said in a deep voice, "That person wants to see us fight, to see us against each other. So let's pretend to be in love. Do you think that person would go to any lengths to mess with us?"
Mary felt something was off but couldn't pinpoint it, so she asked, "But how can you be sure that the other person just wants to see us at odds?"
Matthew said, "Given the current situation, that's what it looks like. Why not take a gamble and see if my guess is right?"
His breath gently brushed her ear as he softly asked, "Mary, do you dare to take the bet?"
Mary felt as if an electric current had passed over her ear, causing her body to shiver. She pushed him away directly.
"I need to think about it."
With that, she turned and left.
Matthew said, "Think it over. Time is limited. Don't make me wait too long."
Mary didn't respond and left Montagu Mansion.
It was already dusk, the setting sun sinking, a breeze blowing with the chill of late autumn, and winter was approaching.
She pulled her coat tighter, her mind in turmoil.
Why were things getting more and more complicated?
She had already divorced Matthew. Should she really get involved in these events again?
When the time came, could she get out unscathed?
Mary's thoughts were in disarray as she passed a corner. The sound of a roaring motorcycle quickly approached from the side. Her arm tightened as someone pulled her, and the motorcycle narrowly missed her arm, leaving her breathless with fear.
