Chapter 482 Mary Treats You Like Her Own Grandmother

Shirley said, "Don't sweat it, that jerk's got nothing on me. I'll ditch him when I get bored."

Mary still felt uneasy.

She was really worried that Shirley might mess up and piss off Herman, who could be even worse than Matthew.

Mary voiced her concern, "Just be careful, okay?"

Shirley replied, "Yeah, yeah, I got it."

Mary said, "I won't keep you from your work. You go ahead, I'll hang up now."

Mary headed straight back to the studio.

Her whole vibe had changed.

Sean was the first to notice and asked with a grin, "What's got you so happy?"

Mary was surprised, "Is it that obvious?"

Sean nodded, "Totally. You never smiled at work before, but today there's actually a smile on your face."

Mary touched her face and then said, "Yeah, the deals I was working on all got signed. I'm about to make a lot of money, so of course I'm happy."

Sean said, "Well, congrats."

"Thanks."

Mary smiled slightly and turned to open her computer.

She glanced around the office and noticed that Maria wasn't there today, but she didn't think much of it and got busy.

At the hospital.

Matthew threw the divorce papers in front of Victoria, pulled up a chair, and sat by the bed. "Happy now?"

Victoria picked up the papers, squinting as she looked them over. A smile spread across her face as she said, "Good, this is right. Everything's back on track."

Matthew, however, responded coldly, "You used to be really good to Mary."

Victoria's hand holding the papers paused slightly.

Matthew continued, "Once, you got lost, and it was Mary who found you and took you to the hospital. From that moment on, you were very fond of her. Every time you saw her, you welcomed her warmly. She's an orphan and treated you like her own grandmother."

Seeing Victoria's stiff expression, Matthew's lips curled into a mocking smile. "But you said a lot of hurtful things to her. Being hurt by someone so close must have been especially painful for her."

Victoria put the papers aside and sighed, "Is this my fault? Did she ask you to say these things?"

Matthew seemed surprised by her question and looked at her in astonishment. "Grandma, she was very straightforward about the divorce. She took whatever I gave her and didn't ask for anything more. Why do you think she's a scheming and manipulative woman?"

Victoria fell silent, her wrinkles seeming to stiffen. She had seen too many dirty tricks in her younger days, and it was hard for her not to be suspicious of a girl of Mary's ordinary background becoming Matthew's wife.

But now, it seemed things weren't as she had thought.

Matthew said in a deep voice, "I've divorced her, but don't push me to marry Laura. Let's both take a step back and give each other some space. If you push me too hard, I won't be without a grandmother, but you might lose your only grandson."

Victoria had threatened him; of course, he could threaten back.

Victoria was just relying on Matthew's respect for her.

But what if he no longer respected her?

What could she do then?

Victoria looked at him in astonishment, "Matthew, what happened to you?"

Matthew replied, "Isn't this what you said, that I've matured?"
