Chapter 20: I Will Never Let This Douchebag Get Away
Mary shut her eyes as the headache was killing her. It was already dark outside. She turned to the window, and her eyesight gradually became vacant.
Actually, she found it quite boring.
Just then, Mary's phone rang. It was her bestie, Shirley Hill. Her eyes immediately lit up.
"Shirley!"
"Hey! Guess where I am?"
The girl's slightly upbeat tone came through the phone.
Mary said, "Lindwood City?"
"Correct, I'm right downstairs at your place. Aren't you coming down to greet me?" Shirley laughed.
Mary replied, "Oh, your highness, that might not be possible. I'm in the hospital due to a work-related injury."
Shirley said, "Send me the address right now!"
Hearing her tone turned serious suddenly, Mary was amused, "Alright."
She texted the address, and in less than half an hour, the door to her wardwas open. A strikingly beautiful woman rushed in.
"Mary, what happened? How did you get injured at work? Why are you here alone? Where's that mute husband of yours?"
Shirley's questions came one after another.
Mary immediately covered her head, "Oh, slow down. You're asking too many questions at once. My head hurts!"
Shirley grew even more concerned, "Okay, I won't ask any more."
She pulled up a chair and sat beside Mary, looking at her with eyes full of pity.
Mary smiled helplessly, "He's not mute, and soon, he won't be my husband anymore."
Hearing this, Shirley widened her eyes, "What happened?"
She had only been abroad for three months. What could have happened?
Mary told Shirley the whole story, hiding nothing.
After all, Mary and Matthew were going to divorce sooner or later. There was no way she could keep it from Shirley.
Shirley was even more stunned than shocked!
After a while, she took out her phone to Google something, and then she looked at Mary with a complicated expression.
"Mary, I thought you were telling me nothing more than a story, but it's all true."
Mary gave a bleak smile, "Here I am like this, why would I make up stories?"
"Poor Mary."
Shirley stood up and hugged her, "Don't worry, I'll get even for you. That damned Matthew, I won't let him get away with this!"
Mary said, "No, don't do anything rash. He is not just someone ordinary. If you mess up with him, we'll be the ones to suffer."
Shirley's eyes flickered, "I know what I'm doing. Don't worry and take a good rest. I'll stay here with you tonight."
Mary nodded, "Okay."
At that moment, she really didn't want to be alone in the hospital; it would make her feel very lonely and sad.
Mary stayed in the hospital for a week. She was discharged after a re-check, which confirmed that she was fine.
During that week, Matthew never showed up.
He didn't respond to Mary's conditions either, as if she no longer existed in his life.
Shirley stayed with Mary until she was discharged. Then she said, "I'll go home and take a shower first. Why don't you do the same? Tonight, we'll go have some tacos."
"Okay." Mary nodded.
They went home separately, but just an hour after Mary got home, her phone rang.
It was an unfamiliar number.
"Hello?"
"Mary, it's Laura. Is Shirley your friend?"
On the phone, Laura's tone was grave.
Mary frowned, "Yes, what's wrong with her?"
Laura said, "Why don't you come to Grandview Hotel?"
Then she hung up.
