Chapter 785 Want to Back out?

Cecilia's eyes widened. "You..."

Matthew even found out about this!

What creeped Cecilia out was that he had just been standing there, watching her lie. He must have been filled with contempt and mockery for her!

It felt like a slap in the face, draining all her strength.

"I thought you might say something useful, but I guess I was wrong."

Matthew put away his phone and turned to Mary. "Ready to go?"

Mary, who had been watching the whole time, was shocked but quickly nodded. "Yeah, let's go."

She looked at Robert. "Robert, thanks for your help. I'll get to the bottom of this. For now, can you have everyone leave?"

Robert gave her a complicated look, then turned to Matthew. "How much did you find out?"

Matthew glanced at him. "Not much, just enough to know who it is."

Robert was speechless.

How ironic!

Shirley, wide-eyed, quickly leaned in and asked, "Who is it?"

Matthew looked at her. "Why should I tell you?"

Shirley replied, "Because I'm Mary's family. When you two get married, I'll be the one walking her down the aisle. Whether I hand her over to you or not is up to me!"

Matthew responded coolly, "I'm still not telling you."

"You jerk!" Shirley dropped the act and started cursing at him.

Mary sighed. "I know, and you'll know soon enough. Why the rush?"

Shirley suddenly calmed down. "You're right. Just make sure to share the news with me first."

Mary nodded and turned to Matthew. "What else did you find out?"

Matthew looked at her, his lips moving as if he wanted to say something but didn't.

Mary stepped closer. "Let's talk as we walk."

Matthew followed her out of the hotel.

Everyone had already left, and the previously noisy banquet hall was now quiet.

Last night's incident had been explained on the spot, so no bad rumors had spread.

Sitting in the car, Mary looked at Matthew, waiting for him to speak.

Matthew had intended to play it cool, but her intense gaze made him blurt out, "You keep looking at me like that, I thought you wanted to kiss me."

Mary replied, "Didn't you get enough kisses last night? Don't act innocent after getting what you wanted!"

Matthew raised an eyebrow. "I asked for your consent last night, and you agreed."

Mary said, "I don't remember."

Matthew looked at her. "Are you trying to back out or settle the score?"

Mary said, "I want to know who's targeting me."

Matthew chuckled and got straight to the point. "It's the same person who set the orphanage on fire, Rebecca."

Mary's expression froze. "It seems she really can't stand me. In that case, I'll go straight to Diamond Ridge."

Matthew looked at her in surprise. "To meet your family?"

Mary nodded. "She's doing all this because she's afraid I'll return to the Cooper family. After what she's done to me, if I don't do something, wouldn't that be letting her off too easily?"

Matthew chuckled. "Mary, you've gotten tougher."

Mary glanced at him. "Who do you think I learned it from?"

Matthew took her hand, kissed it, and looked at her intently.

"How about we don't get divorced?"
