Chapter 199 Utterly Absurd
Mary went back to her desk, feeling ridiculous.
She couldn't figure out what Matthew was thinking. Didn't he care about Laura? Then why was he messing around with her?
Mary felt a mix of resentment, sadness, and powerlessness.
Just then, Shirley called.
"Mary, are you at work?" Shirley's voice sounded weak.
"Yeah, I'm at work. What's up?" Mary asked.
Shirley wailed, "I'm so fed up. I've never seen a guy so picky about details. He's out of the hospital, and my place is too far for him. He suggested I move in with him. No way! If I move in, wouldn't I be falling into his trap? Guess what happened?"
Mary echoed, "What happened?"
Shirley wailed again, "He called me at 2:30 wanting ramen. Where am I supposed to get ramen at that time? I refused, and he threatened me. He's such a jerk!"
Mary didn't expect Herman to be like this. She hesitated before asking, "How long will it take for him to recover?"
Shirley said, "The doctor said a month, maybe less if he stays calm."
Mary frowned. "Why don't you move in?"
Shirley answered, "What? Are you serious? You're actually suggesting I move in with him!"
Mary's mouth twitched. "I just don't want him bothering you. Maybe if you move in, he'll calm down."
Shirley was resistant. "No way, I still feel like smashing his head when I see him."
Mary smiled helplessly. "Alright then."
Shirley changed her tone, "But I've got a plan to get back at him. Just watch, I'm definitely going to get my revenge!"
Mary said, "Take it easy, don't let him catch you."
Shirley continued, "Don't worry, I've got experience in this."
Mary wanted to say more, but her email pinged, reminding her of work.
"I have to go," Mary said.
"Okay."
After finishing the call, Shirley glanced at Herman in the bedroom, sneered, and logged into her other social media account.
On this account, she used the profile picture of a beautiful college girl named Snowy.
She opened the chat with Herman and sent a message.
Snowy: [Mr. Adams, thanks for your help earlier. Without you, my roommates and I might have ended up on the streets.]
Fool Adams: [No need to thank me. Did you get your issue resolved?]
Snowy: [It's all sorted out, Mr. Adams. Let me buy you something. Send me your address. Even though I don't have much money—my brother is in school, and my family is still withholding my tuition—don't worry, I can still afford a small gift for you. Hope you like it.]
Fool Adams: [I'll transfer you $10,000.]
Fool Adams: [I don't need you to buy me anything. Just take care of yourself, and let me know if you need anything.]
Snowy: [Mr. Adams, I can't accept your money. You've already helped me so much. If I take more, what kind of person would I be??]
Fool Adams: [Take the money. Let me know if you need anything.]
