Chapter 557 Unease

Mary put the cookies into the bag, packed them up, and said, "Time is limited, so I made some food that's easy to preserve and still tastes good. You can eat it on the way."

Hearing this, Shirley blinked and immediately ran over to hug her. "Mary, you're so good to me. How about we run away together?"

Mary smiled, "Alright, go wash your face. I'll take you to the suburbs."

Shirley had to go catch the bus early in the morning, so she needed to leave tonight.

But Shirley shook her head, "No need, I've already arranged for help. You should stay home and rest. I'll be fine."

Mary insisted, "No, I won't feel at ease unless I take you myself."

Seeing her serious expression, Shirley knew she had made up her mind. She hugged her again, "I'll miss you."

Mary took her to the bathroom and watched her wash up while she checked the items she was taking.

Some food, drinks, and simple toiletries, are all disposable.

Almost ready.

After packing, they stayed for a while longer and only set off at 2 AM.

Late at night, Lindwood City had quieted down. There were hardly any cars on the streets, and no pedestrians at all.

Mary drove towards the suburbs, while Shirley kept talking about her hopes for the future.

Meanwhile.

Matthew immediately got the news that Mary had left.

He rubbed his temples and looked at the time. It was so late; where could she be going?

And she left with Shirley.

A thoughtful look appeared in Matthew's eyes, and he immediately called Herman.

When the call connected, heavy metal music blared through.

Matthew squinted and asked, "How are things between you and Shirley lately?"

Herman laughed, "Pretty good."

Matthew, "Really? Because just now, Mary drove Shirley to the suburbs."

"What did you say?"

Herman's side went silent for a moment, and his tone turned grim.

"Did she run away?"

Matthew's tone was cold, "I don't know."

Herman said, "Alright, I won't talk to you now. I'll hang up."

After hanging up, Matthew stood on the balcony, looking at the night, his face covered in frost.

The night grew darker.

Mary drove for nearly an hour before reaching the place Shirley had planned, a farmhouse.

The farmer's family of three was home, and the lights were still on.

Shirley got out of the car and knocked on the door. Soon, a girl came out. Seeing Shirley, her eyes lit up, "You're here!"

Shirley nodded, "I'm here. Sorry to trouble you."

The girl shook her head, "Don't be so polite with me. It's no trouble at all. Come in."

Shirley turned to Mary, "I'm here. You can go back now."

Mary nodded, "Alright, call me when you get to your next destination."

Shirley nodded, "Don't worry, I might call you several times before I even get there."

Mary laughed.

Watching Shirley and the girl enter the house, Mary got back in the car and left.

But the further she drove, the stronger her unease grew. She gripped the steering wheel tightly, turned around, and went back.

Herman quickly found out Shirley's location and went after her with his attendants.
