Chapter 178 Don't Even Think About Making Her Admit It

Matthew tensed up seeing Laura's tear-streaked face, pale and fragile, her skirt fluttering and showing her prosthetic leg.

His Adam's apple bobbed up and down. After a pregnant pause, he finally said, "Okay."

Laura's face lit up with a radiant smile of relief and happiness, she smiled but then collapsed in a faint.

Matthew quickly picked her up and rushed back. Seeing hospital staff, he shouted, "Seal off the rooftop!"

"Yes," the hospital director nodded, terrified. He quickly ordered, "Hurry up. Contact the construction team now. Seal off the rooftop. If anyone else gets desperate and tries to jump, how can we continue running this hospital?"

Sam had let go of Mary by now. Slowly getting up, she watched Matthew rush off with Laura; her heart ached.

Taking a deep breath, she knew she had to get to the bottom of that recording and Laura's kidnapping. She wasn't going to admit to something she didn't do.

Her knees sore from kneeling earlier, Mary left the rooftop, took the elevator, and exited the hospital.

She had no desire to spend another moment in that place; it was like a suffocation!

She pulled out her phone and hesitated, staring at Linda's number. Did Linda give the recording to Matthew? Without proof, confronting Linda wouldn't help.

What should she do now? How could she investigate?

As she pondered, her phone rang. She instinctively answered. "Hello?"

Mary quickly put the phone to her ear. Robert's cheerful voice came through, "You answered so fast! Were you waiting for my call?"

Mary smiled, "Of course, you're my savior. I've been waiting for your call."

Robert teased, "Mary, it feels like you want to be my maid?"

Laughter bubbled up from Mary's throat. Wasn't she just like a maid to him? Robert had helped her so many times that she didn't know how to express her gratitude adequately.

Robert continued, "Being a maid can wait. Just cook for me a few more times. I've got the supermarket's surveillance footage."

Mary's eyes lit up. "Really? Can you send it to me now?"

"Turn around," Robert said.

Mary turned and saw Robert's car nearby. He waved with a mischievous smile.

Mary waved back and walked over.

"Robert, what are you doing here?" Mary hung up, puzzled.

"I had some business here and didn't expect to run into you. Aren't we fated to meet?" Robert grinned.

Mary smiled, "Can you send me the video now?"

Robert replied, "Not yet. Let's get in the car first."

After a moment's hesitation, Mary got in. She sat quietly, like a well-behaved student.

Robert's mouth twitched, and revved up the car. "I haven't eaten yet. Join me for a meal; then I'll send it to you."

"Okay," Mary agreed.

Meanwhile, Sam watched her get into Robert's car, his expression darkening.
