Chapter 354 The Attitude of Asking for Help
Mary hit up the grocery store and hustled back home.
She was waiting on a text from Matthew.
But after she hit send, dude went radio silent.
What the heck was going on?
This morning, Matthew was acting all normal, so why the sudden switch-up?
What went sideways?
Mary was stumped.
It was already afternoon.
Watching the sun dip, her mood tanked with it.
She couldn't wrap her head around why the Montagu family nabbed Gerald, tortured him, and even threatened to lock him up, then sent those pics to Mark.
'Is it Linda or Richard? What’s their game? Why are they gunning for a driver?' As she was mulling it over, her phone buzzed again. She snatched it up, hoping it was Matthew, but nope, it was Mark.
"Hey, Mark, what's up?" Mary answered.
Mark sounded all frantic. "Mary, that family came at me, told me to bounce from Lindwood City, and even tossed me some cash to forget about Gerald. No way! Gerald's my only kid. I didn't take their money, so now they're trying to boot me out of Lindwood City. I got nowhere to crash."
Mary shot up, not expecting things to be this jacked up!
The Montagu family was trying to buy Gerald's life with cash!
What did Gerald do to deserve this?
Mary asked, "Mark, where you at?"
Mark said, "I'm on the street; the hotel kicked me out."
Mary said, "Drop me your location, I'll come get you."
"Okay." Mark agreed.
After hanging up, Mary checked the location and headed out.
But just as she got downstairs, her phone buzzed again. This time, it was Matthew.
She let out a breath and picked up. "Matthew, you coming over for dinner tonight?"
Matthew's deep, smooth voice came through. "Mary, is this how you ask for a favor?"
Mary bit her lip. "Where are you? I need to see you."
Her voice softened, dropping the tough act.
Matthew found it ironic.
She only buttered him up when she needed something.
He said coldly, "The Montagu Mansion, I want to see you now."
Mary frowned. "Can it wait? I got something to handle right now."
Matthew replied, ice-cold, "Half an hour. If I don't see you, just forget about whatever you wanted to say!"
Then he hung up.
Mary was fuming!
She just thought Matthew was being so weird!
But no time to dwell on it. She first found Mark, got him a hotel room, and settled him in. By the time she rolled up to the Montagu Mansion, it was already an hour later.
She stood at the gate, out of breath, her hair a mess. The wind blew, and her hair tickled her cheeks.
She rang the doorbell, but no one answered.
There were clearly lights on inside!
Mary called Matthew.
He didn't pick up!
He even straight-up hung up on her!
Mary was baffled, especially since Matthew got back from the Montagu family.
Matthew was ice-cold to her!
