Chapter 243 In What Identity Are You Speaking to Me?
David watched Mary leave, looking a bit conflicted. John Perry asked, "Who's she?"
David replied, "A friend from the orphanage."
John chuckled, "She's cute. You should go for it. Need a wingman?"
David shook his head. "Don't joke. She's married."
John awkwardly scratched his head and shut up.
When they got to the Opulent Oasis Hotel, Mary looked completely cold.
She'd been thinking the whole way and still couldn't figure out why Matthew was after David. 'David's just a regular guy; he shouldn't be a threat to Matthew!'
Mary walked straight into the hotel. The receptionist saw her and smiled politely, more respectful than before.
Clearly, she'd been told not to stop Mary anymore.
Mary went straight to the suite and entered with her key card.
The room was pitch black; Matthew wasn't back yet.
She wasn't in a rush and just sat on the sofa waiting.
He'd come back eventually.
Time dragged on. Around noon, Mary ordered takeout. Soon after, she heard a noise at the door and got up, puzzled.
Mary thought, 'Is the takeout here already?'
She reached out to open the door, and the next second, it was pulled open from the other side. She stumbled forward into Matthew's arms, his fresh scent surrounding her.
Matthew looked at her, his eyes darkening. But remembering what she said last night, his face stayed cold.
He asked, "Who told you to come here?"
Mary steadied herself, frowning. "Matthew, why are you targeting David?"
Matthew walked in, tugging at his tie. Hearing her question, his eyes darkened.
Matthew thought, 'She came here for another guy!'
Mary followed him. "Answer me."
Matthew suddenly turned, grabbed her wrist, and pulled her close. His sharp face was icy. "You came here just for this?"
Mary tried to pull away but couldn't. Her face turned cold. "What else? I need to know why you're after David. He hasn't done anything to you."
"He has."
Matthew said coldly.
Mary was stunned. "When?"
Matthew let go of her hand, looking indifferent. "Why should I tell you? Who are you to him? What right do you have to question me?"
"You..."
Mary was speechless, looking at his rogue-like demeanor, feeling both frustrated and helpless!
With him like this, she had no way to deal with him!
And judging by his attitude, he wasn't going to let David off easily. It was her fault for dragging David into this; she had to fix it.
Mary took a deep breath, softened her tone, and asked, "Matthew, if he did something wrong and upset you, I apologize for him. You're the CEO of DK Group, handsome and charming. Don't stoop to his level, okay?"
But as soon as she finished, Matthew's face turned even colder. He sneered, "You apologize for him? Who are you? And who is he?"
Mary fell silent.
Looking at Matthew's cold eyes, she knew he was determined not to let David go.
