Chapter 554 Pretending
Robert pondered for a moment and said, "Tell me everything you know."
Mary nodded and began to recount the events in detail.
After a while, Robert suddenly chuckled softly.
Mary looked at him, "What's wrong?"
Robert said, "Mary, I have a bold guess."
"Go ahead," Mary said seriously, her eyes filled with confusion.
Robert pulled the car over to the side of the road, resting his hand on the steering wheel. A playful smile appeared on his face. "Do you think it's possible that someone impersonated Gerald to do those things and then framed him?"
Upon hearing this, Mary's eyes widened gradually, and she clenched the small cookie in her hand.
This possibility had never crossed her mind!
Thinking back carefully, whether it was the videos or photos Matthew showed her, "Gerald" was always wearing a hat and mask. Just from the body shape, it looked like Gerald.
But what if it was just someone who looked very similar to Gerald?
She thought of that dark basement, Gerald lying on the floor, painfully explaining.
He kept insisting he didn't steal, that he was framed.
Mary felt a chill envelop her, goosebumps rising on her arms.
Seeing her reaction, Robert said, "It's easy to confirm this idea. We just need to get the security guard rotation list from Montagu Manor for this period."
Mary's throat tightened, her voice becoming a bit hoarse, "Is that easy to get?"
"Easy," Robert nodded.
Mary looked at him, her clear eyes sparkling, "Robert, please look into this matter."
"You asked, so of course, I'll look into it," Robert smiled.
Mary's feelings were very complicated. If things were like this, then what role did Matthew play in all of this?
Did he know?
Mary didn't dare to speculate further. From beginning to end, she never knew what Matthew was thinking, let alone now.
"We're here."
Lost in thought, she heard Robert's voice.
Mary snapped back to reality and realized they had arrived at the underground parking lot of Maple Grove Manor. She slowly exhaled and said, "I'll leave this matter to you. If it's really as you said, Robert, I..."
"Alright," Robert interrupted her, "You're not looking well. I'll take you up and then leave."
Mary couldn't find the words to refuse.
They entered the elevator one after the other, and it smoothly ascended.
Mary was still thinking about Gerald's situation.
When they reached the first floor, the elevator doors opened.
Mary instinctively looked up and saw Matthew walking in.
Seeing Mary and Robert in the elevator, Matthew's expression visibly turned pale.
The elevator doors slowly closed.
Robert suddenly took out a pack of cookies and handed them to her, "I see you like these a lot. Have some more."
Mary paused and took them, "They are quite tasty."
Robert smiled, his face becoming even more charming, "I like sweets. I always keep some in the car. If you have any favorites, let me know, and I'll keep some for you."
Mary nodded, "Okay."
Mary and Robert chatted casually, their demeanor relaxed, but there was a subtle tension in their relationship.
