Chapter 162 A Pang of Loss

Shirley shot him a weird look. "Are you really that nice?"

Herman just stared back coldly, staying silent.

After a moment, Shirley calmed down. Mary's innocence was what mattered. If Herman could help, maybe there was hope.

"I'll help you," Shirley said, walking over to tie his undone belt.

As she got close, her faint scent filled the air. Herman stared at her and suddenly said, "You know, you'd do great in the entertainment industry. Ever thought about it?"

After tying the belt, Shirley stepped back.

"I'm not interested in fame," she said, then left abruptly, taking her scent with her. Oddly, Herman felt a pang of loss.

His eyes flickered. "My offer stands. Think about it. I can make you a top star in six months."

"Thanks," Shirley replied with a smile.

Herman went silent.

Meanwhile, Mary went to the police station to check on the food test results. She couldn't figure out why she wasn't poisoned despite eating the food. But at the station, they told her the results weren't ready yet.

Disappointed, Mary walked out as the sky darkened, heavy clouds pressing down like a weight on her heart.

Lost in thought, she walked along the road, feeling absent-minded.

Suddenly, a motorcycle engine roared behind her.

"Watch out!" Someone pulled her to the side just in time. The motorcycle sped past. If Mary hadn't been pulled away, it would've hit her.

"Thanks," Mary said, still shaken, turning to see who saved her. It was Robert. "Mr. Williams, it's you."

Robert frowned. He had dyed his hair pure white, making his features stand out even more.

"What's wrong with you? Spacing out while walking?" Robert asked, confused.

Mary's long eyelashes trembled. "I was thinking about something."

Robert advised, "Be more careful. If something really happens, it'll be too late."

Mary nodded. "Got it. By the way, why are you here?"

Robert raised his chin and pointed. "A friend got into trouble. I'm here to bail him out."

Not far away, a few men were gathered, smoking and occasionally glancing their way.

Mary said, "Oh, I won't keep you. I'll go now."

"Wait..." Robert stopped her. "You look pale. What's wrong?"

Mary didn't want to involve Robert. Things were already messy. If Robert got involved, it could really spiral out of control.

"It's nothing," Mary replied.

Robert squinted. "Alright, but if you need help, let me know. By the way, is your house still for sale?"
