Chapter 798 I Like Her

Matthew's face was grim, his eyes icy. Even with his grandmother lying in the hospital bed, he showed no sign of softening.

Mary quickly jumped in, "No, Grandma didn't bully me."

Victoria nodded vigorously. "Yeah, yeah, I didn't bully her. She cried on her own. I didn't bully her."

Mary was at a loss for words.

She didn't know whether to laugh or cry.

Wiping away her tears, she said, "Seeing Grandma like this just brought back some memories."

Matthew's expression softened a bit. He asked, "What did you remember?"

Mary, her eyes red from crying, looked at him quietly. "Are you sure you want to know?"

Matthew replied, "Forget it."

A lot of things from the past weren't good; better not to bring them up.

Matthew turned to Victoria, his expression gentler, and asked, "Why did you want to see her today?"

Victoria still looked upset and scared, her cloudy eyes filled with fear as she said, "You're so mean. You're not my good grandson anymore."

Matthew was speechless.

The nurse quickly chimed in, "Mr. Montagu, you shouldn't be like this. Mrs. Victoria Montagu is just like a child now. How could she possibly bully Mrs. Mary Montagu?"

Matthew walked over, picked up the flower crown, and placed it back in Victoria's hands. "Do you like this flower crown?"

"I love it!"

Victoria nodded.

Matthew continued, "Do you know who made it for you?"

Victoria immediately smiled. "My granddaughter-in-law made it for me. Isn't it pretty?"

Matthew asked again, "Do you know who your granddaughter-in-law is?"

Victoria opened her mouth, trying to say something, but soon a look of confusion appeared on her face.

"Who was it again? I can't remember."

Seeing her like this, she seemed even more muddled than before.

Even if she was told now, she'd forget in a few days.

"Don't bother," Mary said. "I've already told her about us getting a divorce."

Matthew looked at her, his gaze deep, but he said nothing.

Mary turned her eyes away and said, "I'm leaving now. You stay with Grandma."

She turned and left directly.

"Where are you going?" Victoria's voice suddenly called out from behind.

Mary replied, "I have work to do."

Victoria acknowledged with a sound and suddenly said, "Don't cry, Grandma's here."

In an instant, the emotions Mary had barely managed to hold back broke through again.

She didn't know why Victoria said that. Had she remembered something? Or was it just her subconscious telling her to say it?

But whatever the reason, her eyes welled up.

"Okay, I know."

She said in a muffled voice, quickly leaving before her emotions could overflow.

Matthew looked at Victoria with a complex expression and asked, "Didn't you say you didn't like her?"

Victoria's expression was a bit blank. "I don't like her? Why wouldn't I like her? I do like her. She was just crying, and when she cries, I feel terrible. I like her."

Her words were jumbled, making it hard to understand what she really meant.
