Chapter 292 Exclude Him Too
"Not interested."
Mary just dropped that bomb like it was nothing.
Barbara's jaw practically hit the floor. "Wait, what? You don't wanna know? Isn't that why you came back?"
Mary's eyes were icy as she replied, "I'm not letting you control me, and honestly, I don't care anymore."
Just like she thought before.
Maybe she needed her parents once, but not anymore.
Sure, she came to Lindenville for that reason, but she wasn't stressing it. She was more about dodging Matthew.
In the end, she got zilch about her parents and couldn't shake Matthew either.
Everything was going downhill.
So, she just decided to bail.
Barbara got hauled off to the police station by the bodyguards.
Mary took a good look at the orphanage, a place packed with memories.
She wasn't abused 'cause when someone hit her as a kid, she hit back.
Over time, no one dared to hit her, play with her, or be with her. She was always alone.
Suddenly, a shadow loomed over her. Matthew walked up, his deep, narrow eyes locked on her, and he grabbed her hand.
"Ready to go back?"
"Yeah."
Mary nodded and pulled her hand away.
Matthew frowned, then grabbed her hand again, more determined this time. 'Not letting her go!' he thought.
Seeing this, Mary paused and said calmly, "Ms. Sarah would get the wrong idea if she saw this."
Matthew shot back, "You still care about that right now?"
Mary looked at him. "What else?"
Matthew stopped, his eyes dark as he stared at her. "Mary, aren't you sad?"
'All this crap happening to her, wasn't she sad? Scared?' Matthew wondered.
He thought, 'It's only natural she'd be sad, angry, and down, given all she's been through! Just like when she used to argue with me! When she was mad, she vented; when she was sad, she cried!'
She shouldn't be this calm now; it made him uneasy!
Mary blinked. "I am."
Matthew's heart clenched, and he hugged her again, "Then let it out, don't bottle it up."
Mary suddenly felt a bit dazed.
She wasn't always like this, but somewhere along the line, she started throwing tantrums, acting spoiled, venting her emotions, and crying at the drop of a hat.
It seemed to change after she met him when he lost his memory.
Then he got his memory back.
He wanted a divorce.
From her initial breakdown, she gradually went back to her old self.
She suddenly felt that there was nothing wrong with this.
She said calmly, "Matthew, I'm kinda tired, I wanna rest."
After all this drama, she was indeed tired.
"Okay, let's go back."
Matthew's voice was hoarse, he was hurting!
Sensing her shutting herself off, not letting anyone in, made him inexplicably anxious!
Because he was also shut out.
Clearly, it wasn't like this before.
On the way back, they were both super quiet.
When they got to the Opulent Oasis Hotel, Mary paused but didn't say much and got out of the car.
But then, a weak voice called out.
"Matthew."
Mary's back stiffened, and she lowered her eyes slightly, pulling her hand away from Matthew's.
But Matthew wasn't having it.
No matter how hard she tried, it was useless.
