Chapter 396 How Could She Possibly Know Matthew
Maria turned to Frank, eyebrows raised. "What's that supposed to mean?"
Frank sneered, "Get her to chat with me. If she doesn't, fine, your studio's done for."
He was being a total jerk to Maria and Mary, no doubt about it. And it was obvious he had it out for Mary.
Maria's face darkened.
Mary stepped up. "Sir, I don't think we've met."
Frank shrugged. "Doesn't matter. I know you. Come on, have a seat."
He patted his thigh, grinning.
Laughter erupted around them—Frank's buddies and bodyguards, all eyeing Mary like vultures.
The other party guests? They kept their distance, clearly not wanting to mess with Frank.
Mary's expression hardened.
This guy seemed to have some serious clout. She glanced down and pulled out her phone.
Frank scoffed, "Calling for backup? I'd love to see who you think can help you. In Lindwood City, no one crosses me!"
"Matthew," Mary said softly into the phone. "I'm in a bit of trouble. Where are you?"
Her voice was calm, but everyone heard it.
Frank's face twisted. "Who'd you call?"
One of his lackeys piped up, "Frank, she said Matthew."
Frank smacked the guy's head. "Idiot! Who does she think she is? No way she knows Matthew."
Everyone else just stared at Mary, unsure what to think.
Frank stormed over and snatched Mary's phone. "Cut the act. Either play nice or kiss your studio goodbye!"
He hung up, convinced Mary was bluffing.
Matthew Montagu was the heir to the Montagu family, the top dogs in Lindwood City, and the CEO of DK Group. No way he'd care about some ex-employee.
Frank thought it was a joke.
Mary's eyes narrowed. "Give me back my phone."
Instead, Frank smashed it.
Mary was sure she'd never met Frank before, yet he appeared to hold a grudge against her.
Frank grabbed her arm, trying to shove her onto the couch, but his phone rang. He answered, annoyed. "What?"
"You idiot! You're messing with Mr. Montagu's people? Threatening to shut down her studio? You're the one who's gonna get shut down! Get back here now, or I'll freeze your accounts and ship you overseas!" It was Frank's dad, and he was furious.
Frank's face went pale. He glanced at Mary, stunned.
Just then, Michael walked over, all smiles. Everyone knew him—Matthew's right-hand man.
He approached Mary. "Ms. Smith, Mr. Montagu is waiting for you outside."
Frank's face fell instantly.
