Chapter 778 Falling into His Arms
"Ugh, it's so hot."
Mary's voice came from behind. Robert turned to see her squirming on the couch, her skin flushed pink.
Robert walked over and gently patted her face. "Mary, wake up. Mary?"
But Mary grabbed his hand, pressing it against her face, trying to find some relief.
It wasn't enough. She guided his hand downward.
Robert's breath caught, and he quickly pulled his hand away.
She had been drugged!
She wasn't conscious, acting purely on instinct!
If she woke up and realized what had happened, she would be devastated and might never want to see him again!
Robert stood up and headed to the bathroom, wetting a towel with cold water. He returned and placed it on her forehead.
The cold seemed to calm her down a bit.
Taking advantage of the moment, he looked around.
He lowered the air conditioning temperature and noticed a sweet-smelling incense on the table. He guessed that the incense was the reason Mary reacted so quickly.
He picked up the incense and tossed it into the sink, turning on the faucet to extinguish it.
The windows were sealed shut, so ventilation wasn't an option.
He pulled out his phone, only to find that there was no signal!
It was clear that whoever set this trap had thought of everything. They wanted to force them to stay in this room, hoping something would happen between them.
And soon, someone would come to "catch them in the act."
This would ruin the wedding, damage the relationship between the Williams family and the Bailey family, and drag Mary, Matthew's wife, into the scandal.
Mary and Matthew were a unit.
If she were caught in a scandal, Matthew wouldn't escape unscathed.
The Montagu Group, which had just stabilized, would be affected!
It was a crude tactic, but it could have significant consequences.
A cold, bone-chilling look flashed in Robert's eyes.
"Robert?"
At that moment, Mary, regaining some consciousness, opened her eyes and saw Robert standing nearby.
She frowned deeply. As she sat up, the towel fell from her forehead, and she caught it with her hand.
"What's going on?"
Robert didn't move closer. The drug was already affecting her, and if he got too close, it would only accelerate its effects.
"You've been drugged. Someone set this trap for us. I'm guessing that soon, someone will come knocking to catch us."
Robert explained the situation briefly, then looked at her intently. "I'm sorry for dragging you into this."
Mary's head was spinning, and her consciousness was hazy, but she could still hear his words.
Someone was targeting them.
Mary felt weak and didn't have the energy to think about who was behind all this.
"Can we get out?"
Robert replied, "No, the door is locked from the outside."
Mary leaned back on the couch, trying to calm the heat surging through her body. "I need to go to the bathroom."
She stood up, her steps unsteady as she headed towards the bathroom.
Robert resisted the urge to touch her, but after a few steps, she collapsed.
His pupils contracted, and he quickly reached out to catch her, and she fell into his arms.
