Chapter 682 A Jerk Like Matthew

Matthew closed his eyes, looking completely worn out.

Mary glanced at him, said nothing, and turned to leave.

She was starving and needed to grab some breakfast.

As she arrived at the diner, her phone rang. It was Shirley.

"Mary, where are you this early?"

Mary replied, "I'm at the hospital."

Shirley paused, then asked, "Are you there to check if he's dead and if he can still testify?"

Mary smirked, "Shirley, you have quite the sense of humor."

Shirley continued, "Otherwise, I can't figure out why you'd be at the hospital so early. It can't be because of love, right?"

Mary took a sip of her oatmeal, "I came over last night."

Shirley teased, "So it is because of love?"

Mary fell silent. Her heavy mood lightened a bit with Shirley's banter.

Mary briefly explained the situation.

Shirley commented, "He's a cunning man! He definitely did it on purpose, which is the most infuriating part."

Mary chuckled, "The court date will have to be postponed. I'll call my lawyer first."

"Alright."

After hanging up, Mary contacted her two lawyers and explained the situation.

The lawyers didn't mind; the court date change didn't affect them.

Once she hung up, Mary quietly continued her breakfast.

At that moment, someone appeared in front of her.

She looked up to see Robert staring at her with an unreadable expression.

"Robert, what are you doing here?" Mary asked, puzzled.

Robert sat across from her, his handsome face looking troubled, his eyes filled with complexity. "Mary, are you going back to him?"

Mary had just finished eating. She grabbed a napkin to wipe her mouth and called the waiter to pay the bill.

While paying, she said, "Robert, I'm not going back. I'm only moving forward."

"But you were at the hospital, you stayed with him all night. Mary, after everything he's done to hurt you, are you really going to be with him?"

Robert seemed unable to control his emotions and spoke his mind.

He stared at her, "Mary, I can give you everything you want. I respect your choices, but Matthew isn't right for you."

Mary closed her eyes. She couldn't avoid this, could she?

She composed herself and smiled at Robert, "Robert, you've been really good to me. I've always seen you as a good friend."

Robert sighed, "Is this a rejection?"

"What else?"

At that moment, Herman's voice cut in coolly.

"You haven't even sorted out your own mess, and you're here trying to win her over. Isn't that a bit irresponsible?"

Herman, always one to stir the pot, turned to Mary, "You might not know, but he's dating Joan. He has a girlfriend and still says these things to you. How is he any more responsible than Matthew?"

Robert's face darkened. Ignoring Herman, he looked at Mary, "Mary, believe me, it's just a temporary arrangement. Once I sort things out, we can..."

Mary interrupted Robert, her expression calm, "Since you're in a relationship, treat your girlfriend well. She truly loves you."

She stood up, "I didn't get much rest. I need to go home and get some sleep. Goodbye."
