Chapter 837 Drugged and Unconscious
In the following days, Matthew kept texting her every day, but there was still no word about Nora.
Mary had been struggling with insomnia, too.
The video's popularity had dipped a bit, but it was still trending.
One day, Mary was sketching in her study when her phone suddenly rang.
She glanced at the screen and saw an unfamiliar number.
After a moment of hesitation, she answered the call.
She figured maybe the person behind all this was finally reaching out to her.
"Who is this?" Mary asked, her voice cold.
The voice on the other end was a processed electronic tone, making it impossible to tell the gender or emotion.
"Do you want to see Nora? She's with me."
Mary immediately demanded, "Who are you? Where's Nora?"
The caller replied, "I'll give you an address. Come alone. Don't tell Matthew, and don't let those two bodyguards follow you. Otherwise, I'll kill her and frame Matthew. With the video still trending, imagine what would happen if news broke that Matthew killed Nora."
Mary stood up abruptly. "Fine, I'll do it!"
The caller didn't waste any time and hung up.
Soon, she received a text message with an address in the suburbs, outside the city.
A sense of unease washed over her.
Should she tell Matthew?
But the caller's warning echoed in her mind.
She couldn't risk Nora's life, nor could she let Matthew be accused of murder.
Mary quickly gathered her things and left.
She first went to a mall, blending into the crowd before slipping into a restroom. She changed her clothes, put on a hat and mask, and emerged unrecognizable.
This way, South and North wouldn't recognize her.
She rented a car and drove to the outskirts. When she arrived, she saw it was a secluded property.
She hesitated but decided to go in.
"Is anyone here?" she called out as she walked inside.
The house was two stories, eerily quiet.
Mary pushed the door open and stood at the entrance, peering into the darkness.
"Is anyone here?" she called out louder, but there was no response.
She decided not to go in and turned to leave. Just as she turned, someone rushed at her, covering her mouth and nose!
Her eyes widened as she struggled violently.
A pungent smell filled her nostrils, and the drug quickly took effect, plunging her into unconsciousness.
Mary saw the person's face, but she didn't recognize him.
When she woke up again, her eyes were covered, and her hands and feet were bound.
It was eerily quiet around her.
"Is anyone there?" Mary called out, her mouth free to speak.
No one responded. She tried several times, but the ropes wouldn't budge.
Exhausted from struggling, she could only sit and wait.
She didn't know how much time had passed when she heard a noise, like someone opening a door and entering.
"Who's there?" Mary immediately became alert, tilting her head slightly to listen.
The person didn't speak but untied the ropes around her feet and grabbed her wrist, pulling her up.
"Who are you? Why did you capture me?" Mary continued to ask. From the touch and the person's breath, she could tell it was a man.
He didn't respond, just led her to a car and pushed her inside.
