Chapter 491 I Hate You

Mary looked at him, "So, what's the conclusion?"

Matthew stepped forward and blew smoke right in her face, "The conclusion is, the colder you are, the more I dig you."

Mary was left speechless.

She suddenly couldn't figure out what he was thinking.

She lowered her eyes a bit, waiting for the smoke to drift away, then asked, "Matthew, did you start liking me during that year we spent together, or was it later?"

Matthew looked at her and asked, "Does it matter?"

Mary smiled softly and said, "Not really, but I just want to know."

Matthew took a drag of his cigarette, his cheeks slightly hollowed, giving off a mature vibe, and said, "I don't know."

But Mary said, "But I liked you during that year, not the current you. The current you is really annoying. I hate you!"

When she said this, her expression was super calm, and there wasn't a trace of emotion in her eyes. After speaking, she turned and left.

Matthew's hand holding the cigarette trembled slightly, his chest felt like it had been stabbed with a knife, bleeding profusely, and it hurt a lot!

She hated him.

Was he really that annoying?

Why?

Matthew suddenly stomped out the cigarette and strode after her, grabbing her wrist and looking deeply into her eyes, "Why do you hate me?"

Mary didn't expect him to ask; wasn't he just humiliating himself?

She struggled, but his grip on her wrist was strong, and it hurt a bit.

"I hate you, and that's it! No reason!" Mary's temper flared, her face even colder.

Matthew said, "You're wrong. There are reasons for liking someone, and there should be reasons for hating someone too. For example, I hate today's weather because it's very cold. Mary, you say you hate me, what's the reason?"

Mary pressed her lips together and said, "It's a long story."

Matthew stared at her, "You can take your time; I'm not in a hurry."

Mary was silent.

She felt inexplicably trapped, powerless.

It was as if she was caught in an invisible net; no matter how she struggled, she couldn't break free.

A very powerless feeling.

Mary said, "And then what, after you know the reason?"

Matthew replied, "I'll try to change, so you can like me again."

"And then?"

Matthew said, "We'll be together, living happily ever after."

Mary suddenly laughed.

Matthew frowned, "What are you laughing at?"

Mary said, "I just find it funny. You gave up on me so many times before, and now you say you want to live happily ever after with me. Don't you think that's ridiculous?"

Matthew's thin lips pressed together, a painful tightness in his throat, like swallowing a needle.

He gripped her wrist and said, "I was a jerk before, Mary. I don't think our relationship is beyond repair."

Mary replied coldly, "That's your thought, not mine."

But Matthew said, "But you used to like me. I don't believe you don't like me now."

Mary looked away, "You said it yourself, that was in the past."

She paused and said, "Besides, we're already divorced, Matthew. Let me go; let's both start new lives, okay?"

Matthew smirked, "What kind of new life? You find another man, marry him, make love, and then have kids? Sorry, I can't do that. Just thinking about it makes me want to kill you both."

Mary's breath caught for a moment.
