Chapter 702 Are You Really Willing?
As Victoria spoke, a smile spread across her face, as if she was seeing the past once more.
Matthew's expression remained indifferent. "Did you call me here just to reminisce about the old days?"
Victoria looked at him again. "Matthew, you're the only Montagu left. I don't have any other requests, just that you protect the family. You and your father are family, after all. Even if your father made mistakes back then, the Montagu Group is in your hands now. Can you not be so hard on him?"
So, after all this, it turned out she was pleading for Richard.
Victoria probably knew Matthew's rebellious and unruly nature too well. Her tone was gentle and loving, as if she were giving her final instructions.

Matthew looked at Victoria calmly. "Is that your only wish?"
Victoria smiled. "Of course not. I also hope to see your child born while I'm still alive. So, when are you two going to make that happen?"
Matthew smiled this time and looked at Mary. "Did you hear that? Grandma wants to hold her great-grandchild."
Mary remained silent.
What did that have to do with her?
She could see through it; Victoria was just saying what he wanted to hear.
There was a time when he respected and adored Victoria, taking her word as law.
But now, even Victoria had to watch his mood before speaking.
"Mary." Victoria suddenly called her name.
Mary looked at her. "Yes, Grandma?"
Victoria beckoned her over. "Come here."
Mary was puzzled but walked over. "Grandma, what is it?"
Victoria took her hand and slipped a bracelet from her own wrist onto Mary's. "This was given to me by my mother-in-law. I was supposed to give it to Matthew's mother, but things happened, and it stayed with me. Now I'm giving it to you. Take good care of it."
This was a family heirloom!
And it symbolized the status of the women in the Montagu family.
Once Mary accepted it, returning it would be difficult.
She quickly said, "Grandma, this is too valuable. I can't accept it."
She tried to put the bracelet back on Victoria's wrist.
But Victoria held her hand. "It's not too valuable at all. Mary, you're a smart girl. You should understand what I mean. I've watched you and Matthew come this far. Sometimes, when you think about it, do you really have insurmountable differences? Any reason you must separate?"
Her eyes were full of loving kindness. "I was wrong before, focusing on the past and ignoring your relationship with Matthew. Now I've come to understand, and I won't interfere anymore. Her aged voice was calm and steady. When she finished speaking, the room fell silent for a long moment.
