Chapter 105 Touching Her Skin
Antonio felt his heart stabbed with pain, and he quickly instructed the driver to head to the hospital.
Ten minutes later, Antonio burst into the ER, cradling an unconscious Sarah in his arms.
The room seemed to freeze over as the hospital director, doctors, and nurses rushed to meet him.
Even though they'd seen this kind of scene before, their fear only grew. Antonio looked like he might tear them apart any second. "Check her out, fast!"
Everyone jumped and got to work immediately.
Antonio stood outside the emergency room, eyes glued to the red light. His face was a storm of anger and guilt.
On the way over, his worry almost drove him insane.
Seeing her bleed hurt him way more than any of his own injuries ever did.
Luckily, the emergency treatment didn't take long. When the door opened, Antonio was right there.
The director, looking nervous, said, "Mr. Valencia, don't worry. Mrs. Valencia's got some cuts, but nothing serious. She's anemic, and..."
He hesitated, feeling Antonio's intense stare. "She fainted from shock and blood stasis."
Antonio's eyes darkened as he looked at Sarah's pale face. "Is she gonna be okay?"
"Yeah, she's just in a deep sleep. She'll be fine when she wakes up," the director said, handing Antonio some special ointment. "Put this on her wounds daily, and she'll be good in two weeks. Also, keep an eye on her anemia."
Antonio took the ointment, relieved she wasn't in serious danger. "If she doesn't need to stay here, I'm taking her home."
"Of course, Mr. Valencia. Take care," the director said, wiping his sweaty forehead in relief.
Sarah couldn't get hurt again. If this kept happening, the director might have a heart attack himself!
Ignoring the director, Antonio picked up Sarah and left the hospital.
By the time they got home, it was almost midnight. The kids were asleep, and the house was quiet.
Not wanting to wake anyone, Antonio carried Sarah to his room.
He gently laid her on the bed and carefully changed her clothes, making sure not to touch her wounds.
Her injury was on the back of her head, so he turned her to lie on her side.
After a quick shower, he lay down next to her, wrapping his arm around her to keep her from moving and hurting herself in her sleep.
The room was peaceful. She slept quietly in his arms, like their earlier fight had never happened.
But the Sarah in his arms was really hurt.
Antonio looked at her pale face and lips, filled with deep regret.
In the middle of the night, Sarah let out a soft moan, waking Antonio from his light sleep.
He noticed Sarah frowning, and when he touched her skin, his eyes narrowed. She was burning up!
Antonio jumped up, flicked on the bedside lamp, and grabbed the medical kit he had ready. First thing, he took her temperature.
Thank God, it was just a low-grade fever.
Probably from an infection in her wound. Antonio pulled out the ointment and started applying it.
Even though he was super gentle, the ointment still stung. Sarah whimpered in her sleep, cold sweat beading on her forehead.
Antonio's heart broke seeing her like this. When she tried to touch the wound, he gently grabbed her wrist. "Don't move, babe. Your wound's infected, gotta put some meds on it."
He wiped her sweat with a tissue, then softly patted her shoulder and whispered, "I'll be as gentle as I can, okay?"
Suddenly, Sarah frowned and mumbled something.
Antonio leaned in closer. "What did you say?"
In her sleep, Sarah murmured again, "I am the victim. I didn't hurt Lisa. Why don't you believe me?"
This time, Antonio heard her loud and clear. Seeing her pale face, regret and heartache hit him hard.
He'd lost his cool earlier and said some really nasty stuff.
Looking back, he realized how harsh he'd been.
She must've been so hurt, still trying to explain herself even in her dreams.
Antonio's fingers gently brushed her face. She seemed so small, he could almost cover her face with one hand.
She was even thinner than she was five years ago.
She'd come back after all this time, and he should've held onto her, both of them trying to move on from the past. But tonight, he failed to protect her, and his jealous words ended up hurting her.
He knew Sarah wasn't the type to do bad things so he shouldn't have doubted her.
"I know you're innocent. I was wrong. I'm sorry for making you feel like this." In the quiet night, Antonio's hoarse voice broke the silence. He knew she couldn't hear him, but he still needed to say it.
Besides, if he didn't say it now, he might not be able to when she woke up.
She resented him so much. This time, she fainted from anger. When she woke up, she'd probably want to leave him and not give him a chance. "I know you're not that kind of person. I just..."
He just didn't want to see her with Alex.
Seeing Sarah still murmuring in her sleep, Antonio held her tightly, his warm palm on her shoulder. "Don't worry, I won't let you be wronged. I won't let off anyone who tried to hurt you."
As if his words had some magic, Sarah soon stopped murmuring and fell into a deep sleep.
Antonio felt a bit relieved, then carefully finished applying the ointment and replaced the bandage with a clean one.
After everything was done, he sat by the bed, watching Sarah's sleeping face.
His face was hidden in the shadows, eyes deep and thoughtful.
He watched her, his mind drifting back to the day they first met all those years ago.
