Chapter 43 How Could There Be a Boy's Voice
Sarah's heart was pounding like crazy. She glanced at Antonio, his eyes shut tight, and let out a tiny sigh of relief.
'Thank God, he's still out cold,' she thought.
But then, reality hit her like a ton of bricks. How the heck was she gonna get out from under him?
She was frozen, barely breathing, her heart thumping so loud she was sure it would wake him up. Antonio seemed dead to the world, but she wasn't taking any chances.
He'd already accused her of trying to seduce him. If he woke up now and found her in his bed, she'd be toast.
Sarah grabbed his sleeve, trying to shift his arm. After a moment, she realized just how close they were. His arm was wrapped around her waist, his breath warm on her neck.
For a split second, she was thrown back to when they were married, and he'd hold her just like this. But that memory vanished as fast as it came.
Because she felt something warm against her thigh.
"Damn it, Antonio, even in your sleep..." she muttered.
"Jerk"!" she hissed, not noticing the slight twitch of his lips in the dark.
Truth was, Antonio wasn't asleep at all. He'd guessed Sarah would try something, so he hadn't touched the wine. He was curious about her plan.
Hearing her curse him, he thought, 'Seriously? You're cursing me? If I wasn't trying to figure out your game, I'd be all over you right now!'
Antonio fought back his desire and kept up the act, while Sarah slapped her cheeks, trying to calm down.
She couldn't forget why she was here or what Antonio had done to her. She pinched herself hard and gritted her teeth, focusing on collecting his fingerprints.
This position was torture for both of them.
After a while, Sarah noticed Antonio wasn't stirring. She nodded, satisfied that her drug was doing its job.
Feeling a bit braver, she moved his hand and slipped out of his embrace. She secured the fingerprints and stood by the bed, glaring at him.
Bastard,he'd nearly ruined her life, helped Lisa and Lusa frame Brady, and kidnapped Harper. Each crime was enough to make her want to kill him.
With the fingerprints in hand, she could finally steal the surveillance footage and get the hell out of there.
But before she left, she felt like letting him off easy was too good for him.
She didn't hesitate. With a swift, fierce slap to the back of Antonio's head, she spat out, "Bye! Never wanna see you again!"
Sarah didn't notice that the moment she left, Antonio's eyes snapped open. He stared at his fingertips, his gaze blending with the darkness.
He knew exactly what she was up to. Now, all he had to do was wait for her next move. If she really went to steal the surveillance footage, it would confirm she was Sarah.
A determined smile crept onto his lips. She wasn't getting away this time.
The next day was a Saturday. Early in the morning, Antonio passed by Harper's room and overheard Sarah and Ethan talking.
Ethan asked, "Got any black clothes? Dark ones will do."
Sarah replied, "Nope, all light-colored. Just wear this one."
Ethan sighed, "Alright, fine."
Antonio stopped in his tracks, frowning at the voices. He hesitated for a moment before pushing the door open.
The two inside jumped, their eyes snapping to the door.
Ethan, with his shirt half on, quickly pulled it down when he saw Antonio, his young face full of wariness and defiance.
Sarah was shocked, panic flashing in her eyes. Why did Antonio suddenly barge in? How much had he heard?
Antonio scanned the room, seeing only the two of them, no third person. His eyes were full of suspicion as he asked, "Why is there a boy's voice in here?"
Ethan fell silent.
Sarah's mind raced. She quickly said, "Mr. Valencia, Harper's got a sore throat today, so her voice is a bit hoarse."
Worried her explanation wouldn't cut it, she added, "Mr. Valencia knows kids' voices can sound alike at this age."
Ethan caught on fast. Hearing Sarah's words, he pretended to adjust his collar, secretly pressing the voice changer on the side of his neck. Then he cleared his throat and said, "My throat gets inflamed easily, but it heals quickly too."
At that moment, Ethan's voice softened again, sounding like a girl's.
Antonio glanced at him again, still a bit suspicious, but let it go. "Take good care of Harper. Don't let her get sick."
With that, Antonio walked out.
Sarah let out a sigh of relief, looking at Ethan beside her. "Seems like you need to be more careful when talking from now on."
She had underestimated Antonio, who had eavesdropped on their conversation!
She was lucky today, managing to defuse the crisis, but luck wasn't something she could always count on.
Ethan nodded, then glanced at the door. His big eyes were full of disdain and a bit of pride. 'He bought it. Bad dad is really easy to fool.' he thought.
By the way, the voice changer Brain gave him was really awesome!
