Chapter 635 The Secret Within Him
Dr. Wheeler's scrutinizing gaze shifted between the two of them and noticed Benjamin's reluctance. He chimed in, "You really need to get checked out. Without a CT scan, we can't rule out things like concussions or brain hemorrhages."
Benjamin's thin lips were tightly pressed together, his displeasure evident on his face.
Sarah apologized to the doctor with a smile, "Sorry to trouble you, Dr. Wheeler. Could you please write us a medical permit?"
Dr. Wheeler nodded, cleaned up the medical waste, and then returned to his desk to write a medical permit. He said, "Turn left when you exit, and you'll find the radiology department. Pay the fee and head straight there."
Benjamin glanced at the order but didn't move.
Sarah looked at the bandage on his head and reminded herself that his health was the priority. She stepped forward to take the medical permit and thanked the doctor.
After leaving the consultation room, she hesitated before speaking, "I need to thank you for tonight, so please cooperate with the examination. I need to make sure you're okay."
Most importantly, Benjamin had helped her retrieve her ring.
Even though he had come all this way to ruin her business, she still needed to thank him properly.
Benjamin stopped in his tracks, his eyes staring at her for a long moment without speaking. Just when Sarah thought he wouldn't cooperate, he suddenly turned and strode towards the radiology department.
Sarah hesitated for a moment before following him.
Dr. Wheeler had ordered a full-body scan. After the scan, they waited twenty minutes for the results.
Despite the bandage on his head, Benjamin's cold and stern demeanor remained unchanged. The flattened hair only made his features more pronounced.
He walked ahead, holding the results.
Sarah looked at his back, feeling a mix of emotions.
At the office door, Benjamin suddenly said, "You go to get the medication. I'll go in by myself."
Sarah replied, "Okay, make sure you listen to Dr. Wheeler carefully."
Then she went to get the medication.
Dr. Wheeler was free at the moment. He took the scans and examined them carefully. His expression suddenly became complicated and said, "This doesn't look right."
Benjamin narrowed his eyes, and asked, "What's not right? A concussion?"
The doctor slowly shook his head, "There's nothing wrong with the head scan."
He then took out a pair of glasses from the drawer and examined the scans more closely.
"But there's a small piece of metal in your body. Do you know about this? Or was it embedded from a previous serious injury?"
Benjamin was momentarily speechless. This was the first time he had heard about it.
A previous serious injury!
It must have been from the car accident a few months ago that caused his amnesia.
However, the surgery and recovery were handled by the Harrington family's top medical resources. This shouldn't have happened.
Benjamin questioned in disbelief, "Dr. Wheeler, are you sure?"
Dr. Wheeler honestly replied, "Why would I lie to you?"
Dr. Wheeler handed over the scan and said, "Take a look."
Benjamin took it and indeed saw a small shadow in the shoulder area, right under a severe scar.
It looked like it had been directly implanted.
His brows furrowed as he suddenly recalled something else.
After waking up from the car accident, Benjamin had lost all his memories and quickly returned to work at Harrington Group, hoping to jog his memory.
But because he needed to familiarize himself with the company's operations, he initially spent most of his time in the office reading documents.
By chance, Benjamin had come across a confidential file in Harold's office.
It was about the core research and development department of Harrington Group.
Harold was the direct supervisor of that department.
Benjamin hesitated but eventually opened the file. The contents described a newly developed chip by the R&D department, capable of eavesdropping and tracking, and could evade anti-tracking systems.
The chip was implanted directly under the skin, making it undetectable.
The clients included even special overseas units.
It was named the "NovaCore Chip".
At the time, Benjamin was merely amazed that the Harrington Group was involved in such classified fields and didn't think much of it.
He hadn't mentioned this to anyone, including Harold.
But at this moment, everything seemed to be connected!
As Benjamin pondered all this, his eyes narrowed slightly, and his thoughtful gaze resembled a stormy sea, giving an inexplicable sense of impending doom and pressure.
If the chip implanted in his body was indeed the NovaCore Chip, what was Harold's purpose in doing this?
Benjamin suddenly felt as if he was shrouded in a thick fog, unable to see the path ahead, and a chill ran through his heart.
"Is there a problem?" Dr. Wheeler, noticing his troubled expression, tried to comfort him and said, "But don't worry. If it's just a small piece of metal accidentally left inside, it seems to have been there for a long time. If there's been no inflammation, it shouldn't be serious. We can just remove it."
Benjamin's eyes flickered, and he calmly put down the scan, interrupting him, "Thank you, Dr. Wheeler. I have something to attend to, so I'll be leaving now."
With that, he turned and walked out.
As he exited the office, he ran into Sarah, who had just returned with the medication.
She worriedly asked, "You're out! What did Dr. Wheeler say?"
Benjamin didn't respond and just walked towards the elevator.
Sarah keenly sensed that something was off with his mood.
Watching Benjamin's back, she felt a rare sense of loneliness.
Benjamin! 'Lonely'!
That word didn't seem to fit with Benjamin at all!
Sarah hesitated but decided to step forward.
She casually said, "By the look on your face, you didn't listen to what Dr. Wheeler said at all, did you? I'll go back in and ask."
Benjamin's lips moved, but his mind was preoccupied with the possible listening device in his body.
He shook his head and gave Sarah a reassuring look.
Then he continued walking as if he was thinking something important.
Sarah had never seen him so silent before, it was quite unusual.
But since Benjamin insisted, she didn't press further.
After retrieving his clothes, Benjamin changed back into his suit, which had been dried in the hospital laundry as he had instructed the nurse.
Standing at the entrance, Sarah was unsure, and asked, "So, heading back now?"
Benjamin casually slipped one hand into his pocket and glanced at her, as if to say, 'Of course!'
Sarah was about to say something but then noticed the bandage on his forehead and sighed heavily.
Forget it!
After all, he was in the hospital because of her, so she decided not to argue with him.
Then she hailed a cab and then asked, "Where do you live? I'll take you back."
Benjamin raised his eyebrows, surprised.
Sarah was actually willing to take him back!
"Hurry up and get in!" Sarah, not knowing what he was thinking, got into the cab first and waved at him, urging, "This is the hospital entrance, don't block the way."
Benjamin agreed, "Alright."
Benjamin's lips curved into a subtle smirk as he opened the back door.
The cool scent of him filled the car, and as he got in, his body lightly brushed against Sarah's shoulder, only to move away naturally, as if it was unintentional.
Sarah felt a momentary strangeness, and her gaze fixed.
The driver inquired, "Where to?"
The driver's voice brought her back to reality, and she quickly turned her head, saying, "You haven't told me yet, which hotel are you staying at?"
Benjamin's deep eyes glanced at her before he mentioned a hotel name.
The driver changed direction, causing Sarah to lean to one side uncontrollably. She instinctively reached out and grabbed Benjamin's hand.
His hand was warm, almost burning her skin.
