Chapter 17 Heart Racing

So, Sarah was holding the dish, feeling all kinds of smug. She made sure to place it right in front of Antonio and then walked off with this knowing grin on her face.

But man, that grin really got under Lisa's skin!

Under the table, Lisa's hands were balled up into fists, but she forced a sweet smile and ladled out some soup for Antonio. "Antonio, it's been crazy hot lately, so I had someone whip up this soup. Give it a go."

Antonio glanced at the soup, totally ignoring Lisa, and slid the bowl over to Ryan. "You're not feeling great. You should have more."

Lisa's smile faltered, but she wasn't about to give up. She poured another bowl for Antonio and piled some food onto his plate.

"Ryan has a nanny taking care of him, so don't worry. Antonio, you need to look after yourself. You're always so swamped with work, I don't even know if you're eating right. It's rare for you to be home, so eat up."

"This is your home, not mine," Antonio shot back, his voice icy. He glanced at the empty seat next to him. "Where's Lusa?"

Lisa winced at his cold words but kept her cool. Mentioning Lusa, she replied sadly, "You know she's been through a lot and has been holed up in her room. I'm really worried about her."

Her heart ached even more. "Antonio, Lusa's my only sister. You gotta help her get justice."

"Talk to the cops," Antonio said, his brows knitting together in annoyance.

Lisa was at a loss, facing Antonio's indifference. She shot a glare at Ryan, who was just sitting there like a bump on a log, not helping at all!

Ryan caught Lisa's glare and panicked. He quickly grabbed Antonio's arm. "Dad, the food's really good. You should try it!"

Antonio looked at Ryan, the coldness in his eyes melting away a bit. "Alright."

He picked up his chopsticks, planning to eat a bit and then bounce once Ryan was done. But within five minutes, he knew something was off.

His heart was racing, and his breathing got all messed up, like something was choking him.

He was having an allergic reaction!

Antonio suddenly dropped his chopsticks, clutching his chest, his breathing all over the place.

Lisa noticed and asked, worried, "Antonio, what's wrong? You feeling okay?"

Antonio gasped, "Allergy meds!"

His neck was turning red fast. Lisa freaked out, dropping her utensils, but then it hit her—Antonio was having an allergic reaction!

"Okay, I'll get it right now!"

Lisa bolted to find the meds. She came back with the medicine box, but not before smashing her foot on the staircase. She didn't even care about her throbbing toe, limping over to hand the meds to Antonio.

Antonio took the special medicine, and within a few minutes, the symptoms started to chill out. Lisa finally exhaled in relief, but then saw Antonio glaring at the dish beside him, saying coldly, "I'm allergic to pepper."

Feeling the heat in Antonio's words, Lisa shivered and quickly waved her hands, "I-I didn't know."

First time she ever heard he was allergic to pepper!

The whole scene had everyone on edge, especially the maids. They had prepped the food, and if Antonio blamed them, they'd all be out on the street!

The butler was so scared his legs were about to give out. "Mr. Valencia, Ms. Randall, none of the dishes today had pepper in them!"

Hearing this, Lisa immediately found a scapegoat and snapped, "Then why did Antonio have an allergic reaction?  You must've been slippin'. If anything goes wrong with Antonio, y'all ain't getting off easy!"

The butler was almost in tears, quickly defending himself. "Ms. Randall, I'm telling the truth. Oh, could it be that the maid who served the dish accidentally added pepper?"

Lisa's face went pale. That maid again!

She had always thought something was fishy about her. Could she have really added pepper to the dish?

"Go find her immediately!"

In the next few minutes, the butler and the maids tore through the whole villa but couldn't find Sarah.

Sarah had already bailed!

The butler came back to the dining room, head hanging low, nervously reporting, "Ms. Randall, it seems she ran away."

Lisa was fuming!

"How could you be so useless that you can't even keep an eye on a maid?"

Meanwhile, Antonio, who had been quiet the whole time, stared coldly at the dish. He couldn't help but get lost in thought.

Antonio's expression was serious, his eyes deep and unreadable. The only person who knew he was allergic to pepper was Sarah.
