Chapter 228 Antonio, am I so easily fooled?!
Sarah looked down in sadness, her heart throbbing. She just wanted to stop thinking about it. However, the image of Antonio anxiously carrying Serene upstairs was deeply etched in her mind and couldn't be erased.
While going upstairs, Antonio noticed Sarah's injured gaze from a distance, making him increasingly agitated for unknown reasons. He hurriedly helped Serene up and called for the service staff's assistance. But his actions seemed as if he was in a rush because Serene had twisted her ankle.
Serene blankly stared at the man who gently put her down, feeling his broad chest against her. Her heart skipped a beat as her eyes focused on the distinct line of his jaw. She couldn't help but glance a few more times.
The moment Antonio didn't go after Sarah to stay with her, her heart started racing, and now she grew even more restless.
'Do I still hold even the tiniest place in his heart?'
As this thought arose, Antonio suddenly interrupted her thoughts.
"I've asked the maid to bring medicine up for you. Rest well, and if you need anything, go to the hospital." he spoke in a rushed manner, without seeming particularly concerned about her.
After giving some instructions, he turned and left.
Serene felt her heart sink. 'So, he was in a hurry to find Sarah…'
She watched Antonio's tall and straight figure and felt an unfair unwillingness within her. She suppressed her sadness only when the maid brought the medicine.
"Thank you. I'll take care of it myself." She took the medicine from the maid, gesturing for them to leave. Once they were gone, she discreetly put the bottle of medicine in her bag and stood up to leave.
…
After Antonio left the second floor, he hurried to the lobby to find Sarah.
However, after searching around and seeing no sign of her, he couldn't find the kids either.
'Could it be that she left with the children?'
He quickly searched elsewhere and finally found Sarah and the kids in the courtyard.
Sarah was sitting on the swing, swinging back and forth, with the kids beside her, seemingly engaged in a conversation. When Sarah saw him approaching, she slightly opened her eyes.
Wasn't he supposed to be with Serene? Why did he come again?
Sarah coldly averted her gaze, and the kids lowered their heads, showing signs of discomfort.
Antonio quickly grabbed the swing she was on to stop the motion.
"Let me explain"
Sarah stood up suddenly and said, "We're going back first."
With that, she brushed past him without even looking at him once.
Antonio hurriedly explained, "Serene accidentally twisted her foot and couldn't walk. That's why I..." His deep eyes stared at Sarah, trying to catch a glimpse of belief in her eyes. But she remained cold and even more so after hearing his explanation.
"Is it really true? Antonio, I just left the both of you talking, and she suddenly twisted her ankle?"
She chuckled lightly as if she had heard a huge joke.
Antonio furrowed his brow slightly. He sighed irritably and held onto her, not allowing her to leave.
"Regarding her project, I didn't want you to feel uncomfortable hearing about it. I promised not to participate in her previous project and I upheld that promise. At the racecourse center, I didn't collaborate with her; I simply assisted by introducing some investors to her. I wanted to avoid any misunderstanding, which is why I didn't disclose this to you earlier."
Antonio slightly tightened his grip on her arm, a glimmer of sadness and self-mockery flickering in his usually calm eyes.
As Sarah listened to his explanation, she became angrier. She had considered listening to his explanation earlier, but he had held onto Serene and left. Now he came to find her?! It was too late!
She angrily pushed Antonio away.
"If you have nothing to hide, then why were you silent when Serene was around? When I got angry and left, you held onto Serene. Don't tell me it's because she twisted her ankle, Antonio. Do you think I'm that easily fooled?"
The suppressed emotions in her heart erupted like a volcano, bursting out all at once. Sarah pushed Antonio with force, and that same deep sadness flashed in his eyes again.
Antonio was taken aback by Sarah's profound distrust of him. He couldn't fathom lying about such matters. If only Sarah had taken the time to inquire with the service staff, she would've realized he was being honest. Instead, she dismissed his explanation without a second thought. A sharp ache surged through him.
The atmosphere between the two became extremely cold.
Suddenly, someone handed over something, saying, "Ms. Miller, this is something Mr. Donat asked me to give you."
“Give it to me first.”
Sarah furrowed her brows, not knowing what Asa was sending. She was about to take it when Antonio's expression darkened, and he grabbed the object from her hand and threw it to the ground. The object shattered into pieces.
Sarah was stunned. "Antonio, what's gotten into you?!"
Antonio couldn't hold it in any longer, "What's gotten into me? What, you're so concerned about Asa's broken item!?"
