Chapter 958 Wishing for a Sister
"I just wanted to see if you were asleep, if you were hungry... Do you want something to eat?"
Timothy sneered, "What are you trying to pull?"
Thinking about the look in that man's eyes earlier, he felt a surge of anger that he couldn't suppress, almost losing his sanity.
Mary fidgeted with her fingers, mumbling, "I wasn't trying to do anything..."
Hadn't she done nothing yet?
What was he so angry about?
Timothy ground his teeth, looking down at her.
Mary's hair was casually draped over her shoulders, revealing her delicate collarbone and slender neck. Her black spaghetti strap nightgown showed off her smooth, tender skin, with a low neckline that hinted at her chest.
That thin strap looked like it could snap with a single tug.
His Adam's apple moved uncontrollably, his dark eyes swirling with emotion. "Do you really think I wouldn't dare do anything to you? Mary, I, too, possess carnal desires."
Mary looked up in surprise, her wet eyes trembling slightly, seemingly containing fear... and a hint of anticipation.
That look made his heart tighten suddenly.
Timothy's breathing grew heavy, and he raised his hand to cover her eyes.
His hoarse voice carried an unknown emotion and anger, almost growling, "If you pull another stunt like this, you'll stay home and go nowhere!"
Mary was speechless.
In the end, nothing happened. Timothy sent her back to her room, slamming the door as if she had committed an unforgivable crime.
Of course!
Without love, Timothy would never react to her, no matter what.
Mary lay on the bed, feeling self-mocking. The alcohol magnified her emotions, and tears unknowingly slid down her cheeks.
So be it.
From now on, they were just partners in marriage.
She forced herself to forget about it, but couldn't lift her spirits. To distract herself, she spent the next two days with the kids, hoping to forget the feeling of disappointment.
Sarah and Sofia noticed her reaction, knowing that the night hadn't gone well.
But in matters like this, others couldn't intervene much, only sighing quietly.
"Tomorrow is Mary's birthday. I had someone bring a complete set of design tools from abroad. I heard every designer loves them. I wonder if she'll be happy."
Sofia glanced at Mary, who was playing with the kids, her eyes filled with pity. "Such a good girl, why doesn't Dr. Reed appreciate her?"
"Yeah, in this day and age, girls as pure as Mary are rare."
And she could tell Timothy wasn't completely indifferent to her. Where did things go wrong?
"Forget it... This is something others can't help with."
Sarah shook her head helplessly. "Maybe every relationship needs to go through trials before it can end well."
Like her and Antonio, Sofia and Alex.
Without going through some things, how could they understand their true feelings for each other?
Sofia nodded thoughtfully. "You know, I think we were too hasty the other day. Let's let them develop naturally... Tomorrow is Mary's birthday. Let's prepare a surprise for her and make her happy first."
The two of them secretly found the resort staff, asking them to set up an outdoor venue with flowers, lights, and balloons, making it as romantic as possible.
Since men couldn't be relied on, they'd do it themselves!
The next evening, everyone was gathered together. Harper blindfolded Mary and led her to the birthday venue.
In the center were blue and white roses and hydrangeas, surrounding a beautiful three-tier cake. A white swan in the middle spread its wings, clean and free.
"Mary, no matter what others think, always be the happiest version of yourself. Don't change for anyone. You're the best girl in the world."
Sarah's words hit home, causing Mary's emotions to suddenly collapse.
She was moved to tears, hugging Sarah tightly.
"Thank you, Sarah."
She had always been careful, not wanting to be looked down upon by Timothy, not wanting her feelings for him to burden him.
But the more she tried, the more she couldn't control...
Liking him.
Sarah patted her back. "It's okay. Don't keep things bottled up. You can talk to me or Sofia. We'll be here for you."
"Right, don't think about anything else."
Sofia walked over with a smile, hands hidden behind her back. "Look, Sarah put a lot of effort into finding this. It's a complete set of brushes every designer dreams of! Do you like it?"
Mary wiped her face, incredulously taking the gift box. After a moment, she nodded excitedly. "I love it! I've wanted this set for a long time, but could never find it!"
Her excited expression, holding the box of brushes, was seen by Timothy, who had just arrived.
He knew it was Mary's birthday today. He had contacted his assistant to find a gift Mary had wanted for a long time, which had just been delivered.
It was the same set of brushes.
But now, the identical gift was in her hands, given by Sarah.
She... no longer needed his gift.
He was too late.
Timothy's temple throbbed, his hand clenched tighter and tighter, as if he wanted to crush his bones.
Antonio noticed Timothy's dark expression and sighed silently.
He walked over, patting Timothy's shoulder.
"You can see her mood hasn't been great these past two days. Do you think... it's because of something?"
Timothy's expression was somber, silent.
At that moment, the others noticed them. Sarah waved, "Come over, Mary is about to cut the cake!"
The kids were especially happy, holding flowers and gifts, excitedly wishing Mary a happy birthday with sweet words.
Sofia turned her gaze to the silent Timothy.
"Dr. Reed, everyone prepared gifts for Mary. What about yours?"
With that, all eyes were on him.
Mary turned her head, her eyes showing a hint of expectation.
Since that night, they had inexplicably started a cold war, ignoring each other.
He... wouldn't forget her birthday, right?
Timothy's eyes revealed no emotion, his gaze falling on her. "Happy birthday."
"...Thank you."
"I didn't have time to prepare a gift. I just had someone buy you a bag. What brand do you like?"
Although Mary had been reminding herself not to expect too much, hearing his cold words still made her feel disappointed. She replied softly, "I know you're busy. You don't need to prepare a gift for me..."
After exchanging a few words, silence fell again.
The others looked at each other, helpless and unable to offer any assistance.
What was wrong with Timothy... He should like Mary. Even if he didn't prepare a thoughtful gift, why was he so cold?
Sarah frowned, quickly smiling to smooth things over. "Make a wish and blow out the candles, Mary. Make the best birthday wish. We'll all help you make it come true!"
Harper clasped her hands, her big eyes shining.
"Yes! Last year, Mommy said my wish would come true, and I wished for a sister. It really came true!"
