Chapter 517 A Crushing Fall!
After steadying her feet, Sarah removed the coat that had been thrown over her head, only to realize that it was Antonio who had jumped into the water. He had removed his coat so quickly that it ended up on her head.
"Antonio! Save my dad quickly!"
Sarah knelt by the river, unable to think of anything else at this moment. All thoughts about Serene were thrown out of her mind. All she could think of and see was her father and Antonio, who had unhesitatingly jumped into the water to save her beloved father.
Antonio swam quickly and in less than two minutes, he had brought Kevin to the surface. Sarah, nearly drained of strength, knelt by the lake.
Upon seeing her father being brought up, she quickly went to check on him.
Kevin, weak and frightened, had once again fallen unconscious.
Fortunately, there was an emergency doctor among those who had followed them. The doctor immediately started treating Kevin, and Sarah quickly called the emergency hotline for an ambulance.
There was utter chaos by the lake.
Sarah's heart was in her throat until the doctor said that Kevin was temporarily out of danger. She breathed a sigh of relief.
After this ordeal, Kevin, who had just been discharged from the hospital less than twenty-four hours ago, was back in the hospital.
Sarah hit herself hard. If she hadn't agreed to go out and buy caramelized popcorn, none of this would have happened.
It wasn't until Kevin was settled, hooked up to an IV drip, that Sarah's emotions began to calm down a bit.
She had been holding onto the coat in her arms the whole time and suddenly realized that someone was missing.
The owner of the coat... Where was Antonio?!
Sarah's heart skipped a beat, and she quickly grabbed one of the bodyguards behind her and asked, "Where's Antonio? Where is he?!"
She had only been concerned about her father just now. She hadn't left Antonio in the lake, had she?
Seeing her reaction, the bodyguard quickly steadied her, "Mrs. Valencia, Mr. Valencia has been settled in another room. His old injury flared up, so he needs treatment and rest."
Sarah was taken aback, "What old injury?"
"Don't you know?" The bodyguard looked at Sarah in surprise, "A few days ago, Mr. Valencia had a perforated stomach and had surgery. Brian was there at the time."
"Plus, he has a very serious injury on his shoulder. We don't know where he got it from. When he jumped into the lake, he got infected by the lake water, and it became inflamed. It's estimated that when he was carrying Mr. Jerrett just now, he also grazed the wound. Several of his injuries worsened at the same time, and he passed out after getting ashore."
Many complex emotions welled up within Sarah as she listened to the bodyguard.
How did Antonio get himself into such a sorry state?
The doctor advised, "Mr. Valencia really needs to take care of his stomach. Otherwise, the consequences would be unbearable. His stomach can't take much more of this. This time we barely saved him, next time it won't be so easy. And for patients with stomach diseases, in addition to paying attention to diet and rest, their mood is also very important. If he's always under great stress, it would only make his stomach worse. As a family, you should all pay more attention to him."
"Alright..."
Looking at Antonio, who was pale and deeply asleep on the hospital bed, Sarah let out a deep sigh.
In the end, she still went up to him and tucked him in.
No matter what, staying healthy and alive was the most important thing.
The nurse came over at this time and called out to Sarah, "Ms. Miller, Mr. Jerrett is awake."
Upon hearing this, Sarah quickly wiped the tears from the corner of her eyes and went to see Kevin.
"Could you please find someone to take special care of Antonio and contact me immediately if anything comes up?" Antonio was in the intensive care unit, while Kevin was on a different floor.
Sarah couldn't take care of both, so she had to ask the nurse for help.
The nurse agreed, and Sarah glanced back at Antonio.
For some reason, her steps felt heavy, as if once she left, she would never see him again.
"Ms. Miller, don't worry. Mr. Valencia looks frightening, but he's stable now and won't be in any immediate danger. You don't need to worry so much."
Sarah nodded, suppressing the turmoil in her heart as she left with the nurse.
The doctor had previously explained that Kevin hadn't inhaled much water, so his lungs should be okay, but to be safe, a comprehensive check-up would be needed once he woke up.
So, Sarah pushed Kevin into the elevator to go upstairs for the examination.
In the elevator, Sarah carefully asked while holding the handle of Kevin's wheelchair, "Dad, you were scared just now, weren't you? Are you feeling uncomfortable?"
Kevin shook his head and said hoarsely, "I'm fine. What about Antonio? I remember seeing him before I passed out."
Sarah didn't want Kevin to worry, so she chose to tell him a little white lie, "Of course, he's busy with company matters. After he saw that you were stable, I let him go. He still has children to take care of."
Kevin was actually very weak and didn't ask any further questions. He leaned on the wheelchair, feeling somewhat drowsy.
While talking, Sarah, looking at the closed elevator doors, suddenly realized something was wrong.
The VIP ward and the examination room were only two floors apart, and it would only take a few seconds to get there. Why had they been talking for so long? Why had the elevator still not opened?
Sarah steadied Kevin's wheelchair and went to press the elevator button.
Just then, the elevator lights began to flicker, and then, the elevator started to fall.
They were on the tenth floor or so.
If they continued to fall at this speed, they would hit the ground in half a minute.
She and her father would be crushed to pieces!
Sarah's hands and feet were ice cold as she knelt on the floor, tightly protecting Kevin.
Kevin also held his daughter's hand, his pale face full of seriousness. He covered her with his blanket, trying to minimize the harm to her.
Fortunately, the elevator didn't fall all the way to the bottom. It suddenly stopped in the middle of the descent, and the elevator doors slowly opened.
