Chapter 302 Ethan's Growing Divide

Sarah's heart clenched at the sight of her son. The first glimpse of Ethan's small figure in the distance had her questioning her own eyes. Yet, the man accompanying him was unmistakably Alex.

Sarah's suspicion piqued as she approached the pair. "Ethan, Alex! What are you two doing here?" she questioned, her voice echoing her bewilderment. When had her son and Alex become such close companions?

Ethan had always been diligent about informing Sarah of his whereabouts. Yet today, he had not only skipped school, leaving Harper alone, but he had also ventured out with Alex without a word to her.

Upon hearing his mother's voice, Brian's face tightened. He had made sure that Valencia Inc. had no involvement in this exhibition. How on earth had Mommy ended up here?

Brian had come to the exhibition to discuss a potential partnership. He had donned a suit specifically for the occasion, aiming to expand his company's art business. Everything had been meticulously planned, but Sarah's unexpected presence had thrown him off guard.

"Mommy...why are you here?" Brian stammered, his throat dry with nervousness. "I heard...heard that there are educational products here, so I brought Uncle Alex to take a look."

Alex quickly added his own apology. "Oh, right. I just thought of taking him out for a walk, we'll be back soon. I didn't notify you, sorry about that, Sarah."

Sarah's gaze lingered on Ethan, her suspicion evident. "Ethan, are you trying to say that...this isn't the first time you've skipped school?"

"I-I didn't skip school! I got permission from the teacher!" Brian protested. But before he could elaborate, he spotted a familiar figure approaching them—the man he had just discussed a partnership with.

Fearful of being recognized and having his secret exposed, Brian quickly grabbed Alex and made a hasty exit. "Mommy, you focus on your work! Don't worry about me, I'll go back to school now. Goodbye, Mommy."

Before Sarah could utter a word, her son and Alex had disappeared. She frowned, murmuring to herself, "Why is this child so restless today?"

Ethan's recent behavior had been uncharacteristically erratic. Recalling the psychologist's advice, Sarah sighed and turned to leave. Perhaps it was best to grant Ethan some freedom to prevent further division.

As she walked away, Sarah overheard a man mutter, "Why did Mr. Miller run away so fast? I didn't even have a chance to say hello." She glanced back but dismissed it, returning to find Jonathan.

Brian, having narrowly escaped an awkward encounter, exhaled a sigh of relief. That was too close!

As the exhibition concluded and the workday came to an end, Sarah decided not to confront Ethan about his behavior that day. She believed that waiting for Ethan to calm down and then having a heart-to-heart conversation would be more effective.

Jonathan offered to drive Sarah home, but she declined. Antonio was taking over the Jerretts Group for the first time, and she had no idea how late he would be working. She couldn't leave her children alone at home. "I'll drive myself home, it's fine. You've worked hard today."

However, as she neared her home, a man suddenly darted onto the road. Sarah's quick reflexes prevented a potential accident. She quickly exited her car to check on the man, who reeked of alcohol and was huddled on the ground.

The man, seeing Sarah, began to wail dramatically, "Oh my, help! Someone wants to kill me! Driving such a nice car and crashing into a poor soul like me. Are you blind?!"

Sarah, realizing she had encountered a fraudster, responded coolly, "Sir, I have a dashcam. We can't be certain who violated the traffic rules. Either we go to the police station right now and have a good conversation, or..."

Her icy stare and commanding presence silenced the man. But to her surprise, he suddenly grabbed her wrist, his face shifting from shock to joy. "…Isabella, you're Isabella, right? I finally found you!"

The man's sudden shift in demeanor left Sarah perplexed. Isabella was her mother's name, but who was this man, and how did he know her mother?

"Sir, how do you know my mother?" Sarah asked, her brow furrowed in suspicion.

The man took a deep breath, the stench of alcohol overwhelming. "What did you say? Isabella is your mother... That, that can't be possible."

"You better explain yourself clearly." Sarah's patience was wearing thin.

The man paused, his face a mix of confusion and nostalgia. "Miss, in that case, I was your mother's first love... I never thought I would meet her daughter here today... It's fate!"

He began to recount his story with great emotion, "Your mother and I, we were deeply in love back then! We had promised to be together for a lifetime! But later... due to some unexpected circumstances, we were forced apart... At that time, I knew your mother was already pregnant, and I wanted to take her away with me, but she surprised me by calling and breaking up. After that, she was gone from my life...
