Chapter 788 I Really Hate It When You Do That!

Sarah looked at Antonio, who was just inches away. His eyes seemed to contain a sky full of stars, with dense dark lines connecting to form a vortex, as if they were going to pull her in.

"Of course, it's fine." She patted his head reassuringly, a gesture Antonio often did to her, "Cynthia's condition is stable for now. When we go back, she'll just be under observation in the hospital. You don't need to worry too much. I can handle it alone."

"I'm sorry, Honey." Antonio felt deeply guilty and planted a kiss on her forehead, "This time, we have to be apart again for a while. But it won't be too long this time. Harold is seriously injured and can't run far. Once our people find his trail, I'll hand him over to Larry, and then I'll come back to reunite with the family."

His chip surgery wouldn't take long, and since it's on his shoulder, the recovery period wouldn't be too lengthy either, as long as the surgery is successful. As long as the surgery is successful.

Sarah saw the guilt in his eyes and leaned in to kiss his lips, "It's okay. Don't always think I'm so fragile, alright? Without you around, isn't it the perfect time to show my capabilities?"

Her radiant smile made it hard for Antonio to look away.

It was as if he wanted to etch Sarah's face into his memory.

Sarah was amused by his somewhat silly expression and cupped his face, giving it a gentle squeeze, "Alright, I have a flight to catch tomorrow, and you have other things to do. You should get some rest tonight, okay?"

Antonio indulged her actions, his fingers gently stroking her waist, "Are you sure?"

"I'm sure," Sarah pretended not to understand.

Antonio sighed, "We haven't even parted yet, and I already miss you."

She felt a pang of softness in her heart, "What should we do then? Maybe you... mmph!"

Before she could finish, Antonio lifted her chin and kissed her.

The consequence of their indulgence was that she woke up feeling exhausted.

At the hospital entrance, Sarah held onto Antonio's arm, grumbling softly, "It's all your fault! You kept me up so late, I'm so tired."

"Yes, my fault." Antonio let her lean on his arm, bearing most of her weight, and said with concern, "You can sleep on the jet later. When we get back, I'll leave James with you. He can handle the hospital matters, and you can rest well."

The couple had just stepped out of the elevator when they saw Mary waiting at the door.

"Sarah!" She waved, holding luggage in her hand.

Sarah quickened her pace, "Mary, I told you not to come. Why are you carrying luggage?"

"I just wanted to go with you." Mary smiled sheepishly, "Sarah, you won't turn me away, will you?"

Seeing Sarah about to speak, she quickly added, "I've already taken leave. Let me go with you. I can help take care of Cynthia, okay?"

Her big, watery eyes made it impossible to refuse.

Sarah couldn't help but laugh, "You've already brought your luggage. Do I have any choice but to agree?"

Mary's kind and warm nature made it hard for Sarah to part with her.

"I knew Sarah was the best!" Mary's smile was youthful and exquisite, like an innocent princess from a fairy tale, touching people's hearts.

This scene caught Timothy's eye from a distance.

His hand in his pocket tightened slightly, but he didn't notice.

He hadn't expected Mary to pack up so quickly and plan to go with them to Capital City.

The previous day, after she asked about the condition in his office, her lonely figure had lingered in Timothy's mind.

Last night, he came home late, and Mary was already asleep. Usually, she would leave a night light on for him, but not last night.

Timothy felt that Mary seemed to be growing distant, as if they had inexplicably fallen into a rut.

He hadn't meant to be so harsh with her.

It was just that he wasn't sure how to interact with Mary.

Timothy's brow furrowed, his eyes dark with turbulent emotions that gradually settled into calm.

It wasn't until the three of them were about to enter the ward to get Cynthia that he walked over and said in a low voice, "Mary, I need to talk to you."

Sarah and Antonio glanced at him, nodded slightly in greeting, and then entered the ward, leaving the space for the two of them.

Mary felt uneasy, her fingers gripping the suitcase handle.

She quickly glanced at him and then lowered her eyes, "What is it?"

"Why didn't you tell me you were going to Capital City with them?" Antonio asked.

Mary pursed her lips. 'Why do I tell him? Does he care?'

Her lips moved, a bitter feeling spreading in her heart, "You're busy with work. I didn't want to bother you. Besides, I'll be with Sarah and the others, so there won't be any problems."

Moreover, when Timothy went on business trips to other cities, he didn't tell her in advance either.

She would only find out late at night when Timothy didn't come home, and when she texted him, it seemed like he had just remembered she existed.

Timothy frowned, "They have others to take care of them in Capital City. Why are you tagging along? What if something happens and you become a burden?"

After he spoke, there was a moment of silence.

He took a deep breath and changed the subject, "There's an art exhibit in a few days. Didn't you want to go?"

Timothy had remembered her mentioning it and had even gotten two tickets, hoping to ease the tension between them.

But he hadn't expected Mary to suddenly decide to leave today.

Mary bit her lip, her mind not on the art exhibit at all, but on the word "burden."

She couldn't help but think, 'So, he always thinks I am a burden? I am a burden to Timothy. And going to Capital City, he thinks I will be a burden to Sarah too. He must have said what he truly feels.'

Mary's heart ached, a suffocating feeling making her feel cold all over.

"Do you always see me as a child?" She mustered all her courage to look up at him, "If you're nice to me, I'll happily do as you say?"

She really wanted to go to the art exhibit.

If she could go with him, she would be even happier.

But Timothy never saw her as an equal, always treating her like a burden, talking to her like an adult lecturing a child.

The more Mary thought about it, the angrier she got. Her eyes reddened, and before Timothy could speak, she shouted, "Timothy! I really hate it when you act like this!"
