Chapter 944 Heart's Fluttering
"What's he up to now..."
Sarah muttered under her breath, taking advantage of the red light to send him a quick text.
She didn't want Antonio to start worrying again if he couldn't find her.
The reason Antonio hadn't answered his phone was because the kindergarten had organized a simulated rocket launch experiment, inviting all the parents to join their kids.
But due to limited space and the experimental setup, the preschool had brought in some technical equipment, which messed with the cell phone signals.
The call got cut off, and the text message didn't go through right away either.
Sarah had no clue about any of this.
Soon, she arrived at the Morrison Family estate, where the butler was waiting at the door.
"Ms. Miller, Mr. Morrison is waiting for you inside. Please follow me."
"Alright..."
Sarah followed him inside, noticing quite a few well-dressed men and women in the garden, holding wine glasses or champagne, occasionally casting curious glances her way.
She was utterly confused, her expression somewhat bewildered.
"Mr. Morrison... is he hosting a party at home?"
It was still noon, which seemed rather odd.
The butler gave her an apologetic look, his demeanor respectful. "Mr. Bob Morrison's winery abroad just released a new wine, so he thought he'd invite some friends over to try it. Unfortunately, Ms. Nia Morrison suddenly felt unwell... Sorry for the trouble, Ms. Miller."
Sarah listened to his explanation and then looked away, not minding it.
"Let's go see Nia first."
As they went upstairs, the noise gradually faded, replaced by faint sounds of crying.
She unconsciously quickened her pace, heading towards the nursery.
Bob visibly relaxed the moment he saw her, his eyes shining with a peculiar light. "Sarah... you're finally here."
"Yeah."
Sarah nodded at him. "Give me the baby."
The room was well air-conditioned, and Nia wasn't wearing much, making her small, soft body seem even more delicate, like a little kitten in Sarah's arms.
"Nia, don't cry... I'm here now."
"Did you miss me?"
"I missed you too, Nia. I even dreamed about you last night."
Her voice was soft and gentle, each word carrying a special kind of magic that not only soothed Nia but also made Bob feel a warm current flowing through his heart.
This scene was what he had dreamed of for so many days.
A warm home.
With a child, and her.
Now, after all this time, this scene was finally real before his eyes, proving that all his decisions were right!
He was determined to see this through to the end.
Sarah didn't notice his unusual behavior, her entire focus on Nia.
"Has she taken her medicine?"
The nanny, amazed at how quickly Sarah had calmed the baby, replied, "Yes... I just gave it to her."
Sarah looked at Nia's face, red and puffy from crying for so long, especially around her eyes.
Her heart ached, and she softly comforted the baby.
After a while, she remembered, "She just threw up, so don't give her too much milk for now. I'll try to get her to sleep first. She's probably exhausted from all the crying."
Bob signaled the nanny to leave before approaching.
"Alright... Sarah, thank goodness you're here. We wouldn't have known what to do otherwise."
Sarah sat on the couch and gently patted Nia's shoulder as she held the baby with practiced ease.
"She's probably just tired... She'll be fine after some sleep and medicine."
"Thank you."
Bob stood nearby, his gentle gaze enveloping her, thinking that the woman who had lived in his heart for so long looked unbelievably beautiful under the light.
No one spoke; only her soft humming to the baby filled the room.
He watched, his heart fluttering like a blooming flower.
Sarah, worried about waking Nia, moved more and more gently, stopping only when she was sure the baby was asleep.
She looked down at Nia's face.
A spot in her heart felt incredibly tender.
Sarah touched Nia's chin, unable to suppress a soft laugh. "Did you hear that? Nia's snoring..."
She unexpectedly met Bob's deep gaze, feeling awkward and looking away. "Since she's asleep, let's put her in her crib. It's better for such a small child to sleep in her bed."
In an instant, Bob returned to normal.
He pulled out a chair that was in the way. "Her crib is over there."
"Okay."
Sarah carefully laid Nia down, gently patting her to ensure she didn't wake, then meticulously covered her with a blanket.
Bob watched her movements, only speaking when she turned around. "She only snores when she feels completely safe."
Sarah paused, realizing he was responding to her earlier comment.
"All kids are like that."
She hadn't expected Nia to rely on her so much.
Was this what they called a magical connection?
"Sarah, since you're already here, why not try our winery's latest red wine?"
Bob's demeanor was calm as he turned to call out the door, then apologized to her. "I see Nia's spit-up got on your clothes... Why don't you change? Consider it my way of thanking you for your help today."
The spit-up from a child this age had a sour smell.
Sarah glanced at her sleeve, dismissively waving her hand. "It's fine, just..."
Before she could finish, a servant entered with a champagne-colored dress, followed by the nanny who had just left.
"Yes, Ms. Miller, without you, we wouldn't have known what to do. Please, change your clothes... and try Mr. Morrison's new wine."
"I..."
The nanny, seemingly knowing what she was about to say, interrupted her, taking her hand at Bob's signal.
"Come on, Ms. Miller, I'll go with you. You're friends with Mr. Morrison, right? No need to be shy."
Sarah felt it was inappropriate, sensing the nanny's enthusiasm was a bit much.
She looked to Bob for help. "Nia's calm now, I..."
"Sarah."
Bob looked at her, hurt. "I just want to show my gratitude."
Meeting his gaze, Sarah felt her words stuck in her throat. Before she could figure out how to refuse, the nanny had already pulled her into a nearby room, insisting she change into the dress.
Fine.
She would just accept his gratitude.
Simple enough—she told herself it was no big deal.
When she emerged from the room, Bob's eyes flashed with admiration at the sight of her in the dress. "Good thing I remembered your size from when I was your assistant. It fits perfectly."
Sarah awkwardly tugged at the hem. "Bob, I've accepted your thanks, but I'm not really in the mood for wine. I should..."
"Sarah, come with me."
Her attempt to leave was once again interrupted by Bob.
He took her wrist, leading her to the center of the party without giving her a chance to protest.
This was indeed a wine tasting event, with many notable figures from the industry present. Seeing this scene, they gathered around, whispering.
"Welcome, everyone, for taking the time to attend the Morrison Group's wine tasting event. Today, I want to take this opportunity to announce some good news."
Everyone perked up, eager for some gossip.
Sarah, feeling the eyes on her, had a moment of blankness, instinctively wanting to leave.
But Bob held her wrist tightly, giving her no chance.
"Bob... let go of me."
What was Bob planning to do?
