Chapter 846 Perverted Desire for Control

"Let Kurt follow you," Guadalupe said.

Kurt Lowe had always been by Guadalupe's side. He was highly capable and skilled at work.

Guadalupe raised his hand, and Kurt, who was always on standby, stepped forward. "Now that you're the Vice President of the Valencia Group, how can you not have someone trustworthy by your side? You can rest assured with Kurt; he can protect you, and I can be at ease."

His last sentence was full of hidden meaning, and the anger that had risen in Francis's heart was instantly extinguished.

Or rather, he dared not express his anger.

Even though he knew very well that Guadalupe was not acting out of kindness.

Guadalupe had Kurt follow him, ostensibly to give him face, but the real purpose was to monitor him.

Francis gritted his teeth. "Thank you."

"Why so polite with me?" Guadalupe lowered his head with a faint smile and adjusted Francis's suit collar.

"I'm leaving now. Behave yourself and don't do anything I wouldn't like."

Francis's eyes were filled with a storm of emotions, but all he could do was turn his deep sense of powerlessness into tightly clenched fists. He closed his eyes and then opened them again. "Let's go."

"Yes." Kurt nodded respectfully and turned to push his wheelchair upstairs.

When they reached the office area, the office secretary was standing at the door. Francis instructed, "Clio Webb, go downstairs and get me an Americano."

"Okay."

"No."

Just as Clio was about to agree, another cold voice quickly interrupted, "Mr. Valencia, Mr. Diaz doesn't allow you to drink coffee."

Clio fell silent, wondering if she should buy it or not.

The veins on Francis's forehead throbbed, and the anger that had just subsided surged back. His voice came out almost through gritted teeth, "He really does care about me!"

With that, he wheeled himself back into the office.

Kurt followed closely behind.

Francis's chest heaved with unresolved anger, and he said coldly, "Since I can't have coffee, go get me water! Imported mineral water, air-shipped. I only drink that brand!"

Kurt frowned and stared at him for a moment. "Yes, Mr. Valencia."

After Kurt left the office, Francis let out a heavy sigh.

Without thinking much, he quickly took out his phone and called Roy. "Where are you now?"

"Mr. Valencia, I've arrived in Capital City, and I'm about to—"

"Don't come to see me for now!" Francis kept an eye on the door and interrupted him sharply, "Find a place to settle down first. I'll contact you privately for further actions. Don't show up for now."

With Kurt now by his side, he would undoubtedly be monitored closely.

If Roy's whereabouts were exposed, Guadalupe would know that he was secretly seeking help.

That would make everything even more complicated.

Roy understood his meaning. "Okay, Mr. Valencia. Contact me anytime if you need anything."

Not long after hanging up, there was a knock on the office door.

Francis's eyes swept over warily. "Who is it?"

"It's me." Isabella pushed the door open and walked in with a document in hand. "Mr. Valencia, I'm the newly appointed project manager. This is a project proposal I just took over. Please take a look and sign it if there are no issues."

Francis's expression relaxed as soon as he saw her face. "Give it to me."

The office door had automatically closed earlier, and now, in this large space, there was no one else.

He could see Isabella's gentle face with a slight lift of his eyes, and it made him feel at ease. "Isabella, I didn't acknowledge you downstairs earlier because..."

"Mr. Valencia." Before he could finish, Isabella's clear voice interrupted him.

Isabella's expression remained unchanged, and she spoke in a businesslike tone, "We are just in a superior-subordinate relationship. I respect your privacy, and you don't need to explain anything to me."

His hand paused, and his downcast eyes were filled with turmoil.

She was right. But why did he still feel a sense of loss?

Francis's lips curled into a bitter smile as he quickly signed the document. "Alright, you can go now."

In his current broken life, he was still mired in the mud himself. What right did he have to say anything to her?

A superior-subordinate relationship was just fine. It could only be limited to that. He was unworthy.

Isabella nodded, took the document, and turned to leave.

As she walked out of the office, she happened to pass by Kurt, who had just returned with the water. The fragrance she carried wafted into his nose, and a dark glint flashed in his sharp eyes.

"Mr. Valencia, here's your water," Kurt said.

Francis continued to look at the document in his hand, ignoring him.

Kurt didn't mind. He placed the water on the desk and squinted his eyes. "Mr. Valencia, who was that woman who just left?"

His question was too obvious, and Francis's hand tightened, his eyes filled with irritation and a fleeting panic.

He directly threw the document in his hand at Kurt and shouted angrily, "You just joined the company today. Your job is to understand the company's structure, not to ask me questions!"

"What, do you think I'm idle?"

"Or do you want to switch places with me? Do you want to be the Vice President? Hmm?"

Francis usually appeared gentle, but he had a temper deep down. Moreover, having been by Guadalupe's side for so long, he had unconsciously picked up some of his ruthlessness.

His current outburst bore a resemblance to Guadalupe.

Kurt nodded, though somewhat unwillingly, he had to bow his head and apologize. "I'm sorry, Mr. Valencia. I overstepped."

Francis's reaction dispelled his suspicions.

Isabella was probably just an ordinary employee.

"Get out! I have work to do." Francis snapped.

"Yes."

Francis glanced up, and after Kurt left, he stood at the office door, not going far.

'Guadalupe's subordinate is indeed loyal!' He thought.

He looked up at the ceiling, pinching the bridge of his nose. His gloomy eyes were like the sea before a storm, dark and unfathomable.

He had thought that after returning to the country, Guadalupe would restrain himself. But it seemed that wouldn't be the case.

Guadalupe might even become more extreme, showing his perverse control in front of others.

If that happened, smart people like Antonio and Sarah would definitely notice!

The last thing he wanted was for Antonio to know about his relationship with Guadalupe!

Francis let out a heavy breath and decided he had to speed things up.

With Kurt around, he had no mood to stay at the company any longer. He left work on time that afternoon and went home. Not long after he entered, Sarah rang the doorbell and came in. "Francis, Antonio is cooking tonight. Come over and have dinner with us."

Francis felt a bit embarrassed, thinking about the unpleasant encounter earlier with the four of them. "Sarah, don't worry about what happened before."

"It's okay, Francis." Sarah waved her hand dismissively. "I wasn't in a good mood then either. I should apologize to you for putting you in a difficult position."
