Chapter 57 Sarah, You Betrayed Me First
Sarah was itching to yank that two-faced Lisa out of the screen and give her a piece of her mind. Adults beefing is one thing, but dragging kids into it? That's low. Sure, take shots at her, but why go after Harper?
But she couldn't blow Harper's cover, so she had to bite her tongue and keep quiet for now.
She glanced over at Harper, worried the kid might catch wind of the drama. Luckily, Harper was all wrapped up in her teddy bear and comic book, totally oblivious to the online chaos.
Sarah let out a small sigh of relief and then something clicked. "Harper, why'd you come back?" she asked.
Harper turned to her, guilt written all over her young face.
Why? To help Antonio win Sarah back and make their family whole again, duh. But since Sarah hadn't caught on to Antonio's feelings yet, Harper kept her mouth shut.
Seeing Harper like that, Sarah let out a barely audible sigh and dropped the subject.
She got out of bed, holding her throbbing head, and walked over to the floor-to-ceiling window, looking down.
"I'm just on the second floor. If I tie the sheets and duvet together, it should be long enough." Sarah muttered to herself, then turned to Harper, determination blazing in her eyes.
Harper didn't know the real Antonio and might still have some hope for him. But if the kids' identities got out, Antonio wouldn't just sit back.
She had to find that surveillance tape and get Harper out of there, fast.
Suddenly, the door swung open, snapping Sarah out of her thoughts. She instinctively reached out to steady herself against the window.
Antonio stood there in a suit, his eyes darkening the moment he saw her. "Harper, go back to your room. I need to talk to her."
Once Harper left, Antonio shut the door and strode towards Sarah.
Seeing him come closer, Sarah felt the danger and wanted to back away but had nowhere to go.
Her face was full of defiance. She gritted her teeth and spat, "What do you want now?"
Antonio stopped right in front of her and coldly asked, "Why aren't you resting in bed? What are you doing by the window?"
Sarah felt a twinge of guilt but kept her cool, glaring at him and sneering, "None of your business. My injury isn't that serious. Can't I get up and stretch my legs after lying down for so long?"
Antonio locked eyes with her, like he was trying to read her mind.
But in the end, he let it go and asked, "How are you feeling? Is your head still dizzy?"
Sarah couldn't help but laugh coldly. "Antonio, are you seriously pretending to care? That guy who wants me dead is suddenly acting all caring. Can't you see how messed up that is?"
Antonio's face darkened even more, his lips pressed into a thin line, clearly holding back a storm of anger.
This prickly version of Sarah was a total stranger to him.
And she had the nerve to call his concern fake. She never used to be like this.
Seeing his expression, Sarah's disdain only grew. "Antonio, don't forget what you promised me. When my injury heals, you'll give me the surveillance tape."
"You still wanna leave?" Antonio cut her off, gritting his teeth.
He'd done so much, and she still wouldn't stick around?
Sarah met his gaze coldly, crossing her arms, her words dripping with sarcasm. "I've been humiliated. Why should I stay? You might not care about your reputation, but I do."
Those words set Antonio off. He stepped forward, roughly grabbed her face, and kissed her hard.
Sarah felt disgusted and shoved him away with all her strength, cursing, "Bastard! Get away from me!"
Antonio's chest heaved with anger. Seeing Sarah wipe her lips only provoked him more, making his emotions even more volatile.
He grabbed her wrist, demanding, "Do you hate me that much?"
Sarah's wrist throbbed from his grip. She struggled to pry his fingers off. "I've made it very clear. I hate you. I hate you touching me. Let go!"
Was he always this angry? What did he think she was, his personal punching bag?
But Antonio only tightened his grip, his eyes bloodshot, staring at her and roaring, "Sarah, what are you resisting? Wasn't it you who betrayed me first? What right do you have to treat me like this?"
Did Sarah lose her memory five years ago?
What right did she have to resist and hate him?
Sarah was already dizzy, and now she was so mad her head was spinning. She screamed hysterically, using all her strength to break free from his grip.
Antonio was starting to throw false accusations now!
She glared at him, shouting, "Antonio, I'll never forget how you cheated on me with Lisa and had Ryan! I've finally started a new life and don't want to waste time on people like you! I don't care who you marry or raise a son with. Just don't disgust me anymore!"
Hearing this, Antonio wanted to retort, but the words stuck in his throat.
In Sarah's enraged gaze, a hint of icy detachment surfaced.
Why the sudden silence? The undeniable truth loomed before him, leaving no room for further words, didn't it?
Antonio suddenly calmed down. He took a deep breath, let go of her hand, and said, "I'll handle Lisa's issue."
After saying that, he didn't wait for Sarah to respond and turned to leave.
Sarah pursed her lips, glaring at Antonio's back. Even after he left, she kept staring at the door.
'What did he just say? Handle Lisa's issue? He must be lying.'
'Does he still think I'm the fool from five years ago? I have long seen through him. He has always been on Lisa's side!'
Thinking this, Sarah turned and looked out the window again, gritting her teeth.
She needed to find the surveillance footage before Antonio destroyed it, and then she had to get out of here immediately!
