Chapter 479 Do You Not Want Me Anymore?
It wasn't long before Sarah returned, pushing Brady's hospital bed back with the help of a nurse.
Antonio quickly wiped the tears from the corners of his eyes and went over to help the nurse secure the bed in place. After the nurse left, Sarah immediately noticed the couple's ring in Antonio's hand, and a hint of disappointment flashed in her eyes.
He had found it after all.
Right now, how ridiculous did it seem? Would he think her foolish in his heart?
Sarah took a deep breath and held out her hand. "Give it back to me."
But Antonio didn't budge.
"I'm so sorry, Sarah. I squandered your affection and the effort you and the kids put into organizing that grand birthday party for me. I was oblivious to the extent of your preparations and the hard work you had all put in.
"I failed to appreciate your sentiments, and worse yet, I betrayed your trust in me. It's all my fault. Can you give me a chance to make amends?"
Sarah looked at Antonio, whose eyes were filled with remorse. She knew he felt guilty, but what difference did it make?
No matter how many apologies he offered now, no matter how sincere his admissions of guilt, it couldn't change what had happened.
Her mind was made up, and nothing was going to change it.
"Antonio, give me the ring," Sarah said again, her voice cold.
Antonio clutched the ring tightly in his hand, his eyes bloodshot, his voice choked, "Sarah, please don't give up on me, okay? Stay with me, will you?"
Faced with Antonio’s pleading, Sarah felt an intensified desolation within her.
"Antonio, give the ring back to me. It doesn't matter anymore."
Antonio held onto Sarah, trying to maintain composure while his mind was in turmoil. His tone grew slightly urgent. "How can it not matter? This is a symbol of our love. Don't you like it anymore? It doesn't matter, I can design another one for you, okay?"
He embraced her, wanting to hold her in place, to prevent her from leaving.
Sarah didn't struggle or make a fuss; she just listened quietly to Antonio's pleas.
In the end, Antonio's voice was hoarse from pleading, having exhausted every kind word, yet he still received no response.
Seeing that Antonio had fallen silent, Sarah slowly pushed him away and took back the ring from his hand.
"You said it yourself, this ring was designed by me, so I am its rightful owner. And you shouldn't be wearing this ring either."
Antonio finally panicked when he saw a dullness in Sarah's eyes that had never been there before.
Over the years, amid their arguments and conflicts, Sarah's eyes had always shown emotion. She was either loving or hating, but her eyes had never lost their shine.
Now, however, she seemed like an empty shell, as though nothing could sitr even the slightest emotion in her eyes.
Antonio wrapped his arms around Sarah, speaking anxiously, "Sarah, what are you talking about? I will only wear the ring you've given me. Don't do this... I swear to you, I'll never marry another woman in my life; you're the only wife for me!"
"Antonio," Sarah suddenly interrupted him, a slow smile spread across her face—a bitter and painful smile, but still, it surfaced on her pale, powerless face.
She looked at Antonio in front of her, her heart aching unbearably, yet there was also an unusual resolve. There were words she had to say now, while she still could.
"We've been entangled for so many years, and I thought we were finally going to be together. But fate likes to play tricks, always robbing me of peace.
"Now, I don't want to hear your explanations anymore, nor do I want to discuss anything related to Serene. I’m not interested in whatever it is that happened between you two," she said with a sigh.
"The doctor just informed me about a treatment abroad that can stimulate my brother's brain and possibly awaken him. The treatment will take a long time, and right now, all I want is for my brother to be safe. So, let's put our matters aside for now."
Antonio quickly processed Sarah's words and responded, "Okay, as you wish. We'll set aside our issues for now. It's more important to get Brady to wake up. Don't worry, I have connections with hospitals abroad. I'll make arrangements right away, and we can leave immediately."
Sensing a lifeline, he hurriedly pulled out his phone, ready to call James as he spoke.
Seeing this, Sarah pressed his hand down.
Antonio froze, sensing something amiss. His voice trembled as he asked, "Sarah, what's wrong? I can put everything here aside. Even if I have to give up the company, I will not hesitate. It's not as important as you."
Sarah exhaled softly. "You misunderstand. I’ll take the children and my brother abroad, and we’re going without you. There’s no space for you. So, there’s no need to trouble yourself. I will handle this myself."
Antonio stood rooted to the spot.
He couldn't believe what he was hearing. He clutched Sarah's hand tightly, almost pleading. “Sarah, what do you mean? Are you… saying you’re giving up on me?"
Sarah shut her eyes, sensing a sting at the bridge of her nose.
She fought back tears, silently shaking her head. "But Antonio, it was you who gave up on me first."
