Chapter 656 This is a Bit Tricky
The engagement news hit the media thanks to Isabella's last-minute hustle, calling in favors and spending some cash to get it published.
She was practically bursting with excitement, eager for everyone to know she was about to become Benjamin's wife!
After a day packed with meetings and engagement prep, Isabella felt pretty satisfied when returned to hospital, even though it was the early hours.
She tried to keep her voice down, not wanting to wake Benjamin. But he wasn't asleep at all.
"Why are you back so late?"
Benjamin's voice came from the bed when she stepped in.
His tone was different from his usual indifference; it had a touch of concern and tenderness.
Isabella couldn't help but smile and hurried over to him.
"Benjamin, why aren't you asleep yet?"
The lights in the ward were on, and she could see the relief on Benjamin's face.
"I was worried since you were out so late. I didn't want to distract you while you were driving."
So he had been waiting for her all this time?
A grateful feeling spread through Isabella, and she apologized, "Sorry for making you worry."
Benjamin smiled, but it seemed a bit faint under the light.
"It's good that you're back."
He got a bottle of water, unscrewed the cap, and handed it to her. "You've been busy all night and probably didn't have time to drink. I'm sorry, we should've done this together."
Seeing his downcast mood, Isabella quickly sat down and took the water. "It's okay."
Worried he might overthink, she smiled and explained, "It's for both of us. It doesn't matter who does it, and I'm happy to handle it."
She took several sips of water.
Benjamin watched her, his gaze lingering on her throat as she swallowed, then he averted his eyes.
His expression softened. "It's late, you should rest."
"Okay," Isabella replied, turning to the caregiver's bed and taking off her bag. "I'll help you wash up first..."
Beforefinishing her words , she suddenly felt a bit dizzy.
Benjamin's face remained aloof. "What's wrong?"
"I'm fine." Isabella sat on the bed, gently pressing her temples. "I think I went overboard today, running around like crazy. I'm just a bit pooped."
"Then you should rest."
"Okay."
With that, Isabella lay down on the nearby bed, almost immediately falling into sleep.
Benjamin was not surprised at all.
The sleeping pills in the water were something Daniel had gotten through special ways. They were harmless but incredibly effective at inducing sleep.
He stared at the ceiling, thinking about Sarah and everything that had happened recently.
'Just a little longer. If I really am Antonio, Sarah, please wait for me. Give me another chance.'
Time ticked by, and the lights outside the window gradually dimmed. The streets grew quiet with hardly anyone around.
Finally, a faint sound came from the sensor under the pillow.
Benjamin's eyes sharpened, and he quickly got out of bed.
The pain in his shoulder and back made him groan, but he didn't slow down as he hurried out of the ward and took the elevator to the top floor of the hospital.
Few people knew about the medical research room up there, which wasn't open to the public.
The door opened, and Arnold, dressed in a white coat, smiled. "I heard the sound and knew it was you."
Benjamin walked in and sighed in relief. "Sorry to keep you waiting."
Arnold was a renowned doctor, an expert in both surgery and neurology.
Most importantly, Arnold's family was in Veridiania and had no ties to any domestic organizations or enterprises, which reassured Benjamin the most.
Benjamin had met him by chance two months ago, and they had exchanged contact information.
So when Benjamin discovered the secret about his body, Arnold was the first person he thought of contacting.
However, Arnold was very busy, and Benjamin had to wait until now, but the timing was just right.
Arnold locked the door and walked over to him. "No problem, let's get started."
"It was a coincidence that I used to work at this hospital and have a good relationship with the director, so he was willing to lend me this medical room."
Seeing Benjamin's uneasy expression, he added, "Don't worry, I used another reason. He doesn't know I'm meeting you."
"Okay."
Only then did Benjamin feel relieved and lay on the bed for the examination.
His original plan was to have Arnold remove the chip from his shoulder and find a way to place it somewhere else, just to cover it up from Harold for now.
This medical research room was usually used for patients with special identities, so it was well-equipped with all kinds of examination devices.
However, after various examinations, Arnold's expression grew increasingly serious.
Setting down the X-ray in his hand, he adjusted his glasses. "To be honest, this is a bit tricky."
