Chapter 296 She Suddenly Shows Up...

In the quiet room, Alex cast a surreptitious glance at Brian, the enigmatic CEO. He felt a sense of helplessness wash over him, a feeling he was unaccustomed to.

Brian, too, felt a wave of unease. His identity was a well-kept secret within their home country, but if Antonio ventured overseas and infiltrated the company's internal systems, his tracks would inevitably be discovered. Even if he were to rush back now, he knew he wouldn't make it in time. The question hung in the air, heavy and unanswered: What were they to do?

Meanwhile, Antonio was already in his room, swiftly packing his belongings. The urgency of the situation was not lost on him.

"Mommy, I think it would be unwise to let him leave," Brian quickly implored Sarah, seeking her assistance.

Yet, Sarah didn't intervene. She, too, was curious about the identity of the CEO who had been so generous to her, even going so far as to arrange a blind date party in her honor. If it weren't for her three children needing her attention, she would have gladly joined them on Antonio’s journey.

"Ethan, you need not concern yourself with this matter any longer. Your dad can handle it. Stay here, be obedient, and do not repeat this behavior, or Mommy will be quite upset," Sarah cautioned, crouching down to gently ruffle Ethan's hair. "Now, go find Harper and Ryan to play."

Brian felt a pang of frustration. How could he possibly be in the mood for games now? If Antonio truly exposed his identity, all the efforts he had made to keep it concealed would be for naught.

"Alex, our home is in a bit of a tumult right now, so I won't keep you any longer," Sarah politely dismissed him, also hoping to prevent Alex from interfering with Antonio's plans.

Seeing this, Alex could only bid a silent farewell.

Brian was left in a state of anxiety. If things didn't work out, he would have to accompany Antonio on his flight and ensure his identity remained a secret.

Just as he was contemplating this, the doorbell of the Valencia residence chimed once more.

Sarah moved to answer it, and to her surprise, she found Serene standing on the doorstep, her eyes red and swollen as though she had been crying.

"Sarah? What are you doing here?" Serene asked, immediately regretting her words. "Ah, I apologize, that's not what I meant. I mean, I didn't expect to see you here."

"I am Antonio's wife. Is it not natural for me to be at home?" Sarah retorted, a hint of displeasure in her voice. She couldn't shake the feeling that Serene had ulterior motives.

"You're right, I was being thoughtless," Serene admitted, looking slightly embarrassed. "May I speak with Antonio? I have something important to discuss with him."

Suppressing her impatience, Sarah stepped aside to allow Serene entry.

"Ethan, go fetch your dad," Sarah instructed. She could have easily done it herself, but she wanted her son to take the initiative.

Upon hearing the word "dad," Serene's expression faltered momentarily, but she quickly regained her composure.

Brian nodded. Even though he was reluctant to seek out Antonio, he couldn't risk disappointing his mother.

"Dad... someone wishes to see you," Brian managed to say, still struggling with the unfamiliar term.

Antonio, in the midst of packing his luggage, was taken aback by another interruption. He opened the door to find Serene waiting for him. "What is it?" he asked.

Upon seeing Antonio, Serene's eyes welled up with tears. "Antonio... I need your help."

Caught off guard, Antonio asked, "What's the matter? Tell me."

Without offering any comfort to Serene, Antonio joined Sarah on the sofa.

Relieved that Antonio wouldn't be leaving after all, Brian discreetly excused himself. But he couldn't help but wonder about the woman's identity. Could she be one of Antonio's flings? The thought left him feeling uneasy.

Sarah, too, was puzzled. Why had Serene not shown such distress when they first met?

Struggling to control her emotions, Serene began, "My father... he's fallen gravely ill and is now unconscious... Somehow, the company's shareholders found out and they're trying to seize control! I never imagined things would escalate so quickly... my father is merely sick, not on his deathbed, and they're already making their move."

As she spoke, Serene couldn't help but let her emotions show. "I can't bear to think about what I would do if something were to happen to my father. Antonio, the company is a den of wolves now, and you're the only one I can trust... Will you help me?"

Serene initially wanted to reach out and hold Antonio's hand, but due to Sarah's presence, she held back, moving only slightly closer.

Antonio instinctively took a step back. He didn't respond immediately, not wanting to upset Sarah with Serene's predicament. But Serene's plea was urgent, and he owed her a debt from their shared past. It was a request he found difficult to refuse.

Sensing Antonio's hesitation, Serene gritted her teeth in frustration. Sarah was proving to be a hindrance, forcing Serene to resort to her last option...
