Chapter 722 Cherish Antonio
Antonio just stood there, looking like a zombie. He didn't even flinch until the car was outta sight, leaving a cloud of exhaust behind.
His hand, hanging by his side, was clenched so tight his knuckles were white.
He couldn't wrap his head around the fact that Sarah actually left with Anthony.
He kept staring where the car had gone, his eyes bloodshot, feeling the pain spread through his whole body until it finally just gave out.
Sarah kept apologizing to Anthony on the way, hoping he wouldn't hold a grudge.
Anthony parked the car and said, "Ms. Miller, seriously, I'm fine."
Now that he'd cooled off, he could kinda see where Sarah's husband was coming from.
Probably just a big misunderstanding.
Sarah walked with him towards the hospital, sighing, "Good thing you weren't hurt. I wouldn't even know how to make it up to you."
Anthony nodded and joked, "But your husband, man, he's something else. Did he train for this?"
Sarah shrugged, "Don't joke about it."
"But I can tell he really cares about you," Anthony said, still smiling. "I don't know what you two are fighting about, but if it's just to give him a hard time, maybe it's enough, don't you think?"
She sighed, "It's complicated."
Sarah wasn't about to spill the beans, just shook her head with a bitter smile, "Too much to explain."
Anthony didn't push it, just said, "Whatever the reason, the time you have together is worth cherishing."
What could be more important than now?
Sarah was taken aback, then nodded with a smile.
They changed the subject and soon got to Anthony's office.
He grabbed a white coat from behind the door and put it on, "Want something to drink?"
"I'm good, thanks," Sarah replied.
She glanced around, anxious, just wanting to know the results ASAP.
Anthony saw she was in a hurry and didn't waste time. He pulled up today's consultation records on the computer, "What's your husband's name?"
"Benjamin," she said.
Wait, he wouldn't use that name now.
"Benjamin," Anthony repeated.
He searched, frowning, "I don't see that name. Are you sure? Maybe Benjamin didn't have a consultation today?"
Sarah couldn't accept that. She thought for a moment and then it hit her.
Antonio had been super cautious on this trip. Now that it was confirmed Harold had issues, Antonio must've known for a while.
So, Antonio did all this to hide from Harold.
He definitely wouldn't use his real name.
She suggested, "Can you search for Caleb Valencia?"
Caleb was a fake name Antonio used when they were on the run from his grandpa Gregory and hid in a small fishing village.
Sure enough, after a bit, Anthony said, "Found it. There's a consultation record for Caleb," he said, looking puzzled. "But it's weird. There's only one record, no specific department or case details."
Sarah was stunned, "What?"
She leaned in to look. Anthony seemed to have accessed some internal system that recorded all patient info.
But under Caleb's name, it was totally blank.
Except for basic identity info, there was nothing.
Sarah panicked, "Why would this happen? Could it be lost info?"
"No." Anthony shook his head, "The hospital system is solid. There's only one possibility. Benjamin had someone hide his info. Only the doctor who treated him might have the details."
This was the only thing Anthony could think of.
And it kinda confirmed that Benjamin's situation was pretty serious. Otherwise, why be so secretive?
Sarah was a bit out of it and asked, "Can you find out who his doctor is?"
"No."
Anthony had just said that when he saw the light in her eyes fade. He couldn't stand it and added, "But we can check the surveillance footage for clues."
Sarah looked up sharply, "Really?"
"Of course," Anthony nodded.
Soon, Anthony took her to the surveillance room. The staff had already left, so it was empty.
Anthony remembered the time he met her in the afternoon and pulled up the footage from then.
"There he is!"
Sarah immediately spotted Antonio coming out of the obstetrics and gynecology department after dropping her off.
They stared at the screen, not blinking, afraid to miss anything important.
Finally, they saw Antonio walk to the elevator, look around cautiously, and then press a floor button.
Anthony paused the footage and zoomed in.
He pointed, "The ninth floor."
Sarah saw his expression change and felt a pang of anxiety, asking carefully, "Is there a problem?"
Anthony turned to her, his eyes filled with reluctance, but he finally said, "The doctors on that floor are top specialists. They usually deal with really tough cases."
He was being nice about it.
To put it bluntly, it meant terminal illness.
Sarah swayed, her eyes instantly darkening, murmuring, "No way."
How could it be?
He looked so healthy!
And he had clearly said it was just a routine check-up. He still had so much energy every day to annoy her, with no signs of anything wrong.
But thinking back, she realized there were signs.
He had hidden so many things from her. Many times, she didn't know what Antonio was up to.
So, was it really because he was sick?
Sarah tried to force herself not to think too much, but her mind was filled with the explosion from before. Such a severe situation could have left him with irreversible damage.
'But why him? He has already been through so much pain,' she thought.
Just when everything was about to end, did God still want to torment him?
Sarah closed her eyes, holding back the tears that were about to fall.
"Ms. Miller?" Anthony sighed, looking at her with concern, "Are you okay?"
Sarah forced a smile, "I'm fine."
She moved her feet and found her legs weak. It took a while to adjust. With a pale face, she said, "Mr. Thomas, thank you for today. I hope you can keep this confidential. I really appreciate it."
Anthony comforted her, "Didn't you say we were friends? No need to be so formal. Don't worry, I'll keep it a secret."
"Then I'll head back now." Sarah took a deep breath, "Thank you for your help."
"How about I give you a ride?" Anthony offered.
"No need." She quickly shook her head. She already owed him a favor for his help today. "I'll just call a cab. You go ahead."
Anthony didn't insist, only reminding, "Be careful on the way."
Sarah said goodbye to him and then left.
It was an hour later when she got back to the hotel. She got out of the car in a daze, thinking that she would see Antonio once she went upstairs, and unconsciously quickened her pace.
Only when she saw him would she feel that everything was real.
After so many things, he was finally back by her side.
'But how could someone as healthy as Antonio have a terminal illness?' she couldn't figure it out.
