Chapter 822 Living Together in Advance
Susan naturally supported her, nodding in agreement no matter what Pamela said. "Mrs. Newman is right. You've been running around outside for too long; it's time to settle down."
Pamela's smile grew even more affectionate. "Exactly! Having kids at home is what makes it lively. It's best if you can have two kids within three years; you'll definitely have a boy. By then, your mom and I will help you take care of them at home. If you still want to work, you can go to your own company with Virgil. How great would that be, commuting together every day!"
Sofia didn't argue, her pale face showing a compliant expression.
It seemed like she would agree to anything they said.
Sarah felt very uncomfortable watching this.
Having children should be the result of love between two people, not a forced act to satisfy the previous generation's wishes.
Moreover, it sounded like they only preferred boys!
What made her even angrier was that Virgil didn't refute a single word of what Pamela said, his indifferent attitude seemingly agreeing with her.
'Such a proud Sofia. How could this happen?' Sarah thought.
Sarah felt a tightness in her chest, her hands clenched into fists under the table. Just as she was about to say something, Antonio, sitting next to her, grabbed her hand and gently shook his head.
The next moment, she heard Sofia's calm voice. "Mrs. Newman, you are right."
A polite smile appeared on her face. "After marrying Virgil, I will take good care of him, so he has no worries."
As for children, she didn't mention them.
This marriage was like a transaction, not including having children.
This was the biggest concession she could make. She really couldn't bear to have children with Virgil, with whom she had no feelings. Children growing up in such a family wouldn't be happy either.
Sofia felt she had nothing left to lose, so she naturally feared nothing. But the meadow in her heart had turned into a desert, never to bloom again.
Pamela thought Sofia had finally come to her senses, her eyes showing a bit of pride.
So what if Sofia was proud? She still listened to them obediently.
Sarah's hand was held by Antonio, the gentle feeling soothing her inner turmoil, and her anger slowly subsided.
After the dinner, she angrily shook off Antonio's hand.
"I still need to persuade Sofia. At worst, we can invest in the Harris Family. We can't just watch her ruin herself!" Sarah spoke in a low voice, so no one around heard her. They just thought the couple was whispering and didn't come over to interrupt.
"Don't be in such a hurry." Antonio didn't intend to stop her, but he said, "But have you forgotten that there's someone else who should be the one to persuade her?"
Sarah suddenly realized Alex.
After all, they had already said everything they needed to say.
Sofia's attitude was clear; she wouldn't turn back.
But Alex was different, who was the one Sofia loved.
Seeing the one she loved, Sofia would waver, right?
As they walked outside, Sarah looked up at the door. Sofia and Virgil stood side by side, talking politely with the elders. It actually looked harmonious, giving a false impression of deep affection.
Thinking this should stimulate Alex, Sarah quickly took out her phone and recorded a short video, capturing the two of them standing close, as if holding hands.
The video was sent successfully.
She also sent the wedding address and time, adding: [Alex, do you really want to lose Sofia forever?]
A few minutes passed with no response from Alex, but Sarah had a feeling he had seen it.
Feeling a bit anxious, she quietly asked Antonio, "Do you think Alex will come?"
From what Alex had shown before, it seemed like he had given up. Would he really just let Sofia go? When someone was heartbroken to the extreme, anything was possible.
Antonio raised an eyebrow and looked at her, "I don't know if Alex will come, but if he's a man, he definitely will."
Sarah fell silent.
But hearing this, she felt a bit relieved. She glanced at him and said, "If it doesn't work, we have a second plan. If Alex doesn't come, you can pretend to faint at the wedding tomorrow. I'll say you're dying and need an ambulance! No matter what, we'll pause their wedding first! Whatever the consequences, I'll take responsibility."
Antonio remained silent.
By this time, the two at the door had already seen off their parents.
Sofia walked over and said, "Sarah, do you need us to give you a ride back?"
Tomorrow was the official wedding, and everyone had to get up early. She didn't plan to chat much with Sarah.
Sarah sighed and pinched her face, "Look how haggard you've become recently. You don't need to see me off. Go back and rest well, adjust your state."
To welcome Alex's arrival tomorrow!
With Antonio there, Sofia had no worries. "Then we'll head back first. Be careful on your way."
Virgil walked over, his hand unconsciously landing on Sofia's shoulder. "I hope you two will attend the wedding on time tomorrow."
Sarah didn't want to deal with him at all and walked ahead.
Watching them drive away, Sofia's eyes dimmed.
"Shall we go back too?" Antonio's gentle voice came from beside her. She felt a bit irritated but still forced herself to respond.
Back at the Newman Mansion, everyone was already resting.
They went upstairs together.
Sofia's room was next to Virgil's. Just as she opened her door, Virgil suddenly grabbed her hand, "Sofia."
She instinctively turned back, "What's wrong?"
Virgil chuckled softly, gently pressing her against the wall. His tall figure almost immediately enveloped her. "Tomorrow is our wedding. How about we make love tonight? Hmm?"
As he spoke, he leaned into her neck, her scent wafting into his nose, stimulating his nerves.
But for Sofia, it was pure torture.
The unfamiliar scent overwhelmed her senses, and her body instinctively recoiled slightly.
"We..." The words of refusal seemed to have no place to come out.
Virgil saw through her thoughts, a smile tugging at his lips as he gently stroked her chin. "After tonight, we'll be the closest people. We'll spend our lives together. Isn't it good to get used to it in advance?"
He was right, without a single flaw.
Even Sofia herself felt she shouldn't refuse.
However, Another face involuntarily appeared in her mind, Alex's deep eyes and features, as if etched in her brain, impossible to erase.
As Virgil leaned in to kiss her, Sofia suddenly panicked and pushed against his chest. "Wait."
"What's wrong?"
"Virgil, I have to get up early to do my makeup tomorrow." She pretended to be calm. "If I don't rest well tonight, do you want me to be distracted at the wedding tomorrow?"
Virgil seemed to pause, thinking she made sense, and sighed lightly. "It seems my wish to hold you tonight can't be fulfilled."
"There will be plenty of opportunities in the future. What's the rush?" Sofia joked with him on the surface, but her heart sank heavily.
She could stall tonight, but what about after the wedding? And all the days and nights of her life?
