Chapter 323 The Wife of the CEO

In the days of their youth, he had been the president of their university's student council. "Let's find a quiet place to talk," he suggested, "I'll explain everything to you in detail."

Sarah, feeling a wave of gratitude towards Asa for his assistance in diffusing the situation with Victor, pointed to a nearby café. "Let's go there. They make a wonderful Americano."

Once settled in the café, Sarah began to explain her recent discovery of her biological father. "No matter the circumstances, he is my father, and it's my duty to look after him. I can't thank you enough for your help today."

Asa waved away her gratitude. "It was my mistake to call the police without fully understanding the situation. I'm just relieved there was no misunderstanding between us." He felt a twinge of embarrassment.

Rather than dwell on the topic, Sarah shifted the conversation. "What about the phone call from our classmate? Why did he mention my name?"

Asa's face broke into a faint smile. "Our classmate is now the president of the alumni association. With the school anniversary approaching, he thought it would be nice for us to attend a gathering at the university."

"He knows we're nearby and wanted me to extend the invitation to you."

"I see," Sarah murmured, her mind filled with hesitation. The university was located in a different city, which meant she would have to travel alone with Asa. Antonio would certainly not approve of such a journey.

Asa, sensing her hesitation, added, "Do you remember Mr. ClarkI heard he's planning to retire during the anniversary event and move abroad. He was your favorite teacher, wasn't he? If you don't attend this time, you may never see him again."

Asa's words were calculated, aimed at Sarah's soft spot. And they hit their mark. Upon hearing of Mr. Clark's retirement, Sarah immediately agreed to attend the event. Mr. Clark had been a guiding figure during her university years, even personally assisting her with her graduation thesis. She had been unable to part with him when she graduated, often visiting him in the years that followed. But it had been many years since their last meeting, and she knew she had to seize this opportunity.

"Please let our classmates know I'll be there," she confirmed.

Asa saw his chance and suggested they travel together. "The university is in N city, not far from here. I'm driving myself, so why not let me take you?"

Sarah quickly composed herself. "That's not necessary. I prefer to travel alone, and I plan to explore the local attractions along the way. It wouldn't be fair to burden you with my plans."

Asa insisted, "It's no trouble at all. It would be safer if I drove, and you could rest during the journey."

Sarah, seeing Asa's eagerness, deflected his offer. "It's really not necessary. I haven't decided on my departure time yet, and I have a lot of things to bring. It would be more convenient if I drove myself. Let's just meet at the university."

Asa was about to protest when Sarah's phone chimed with a new message. "Asa, I need to attend to some business at the company..."

"I'll take my leave now. See you at the school anniversary," she said, gathering her belongings and leaving the café.

Asa watched as Sarah disappeared from view, his eyes revealing a deep-seated melancholy. He clenched his fists, frustration seeping into his expression. The Sarah he once knew would have agreed to his reasonable request, but ever since Antonio entered her life, she had become distant, always finding ways to avoid him.

Asa sent a text to Serene, his eyes narrowing with determination. "Three days from now, at the gathering in N City. I will resolve this matter once and for all. Don't forget our agreement." He was resolute. In three days, Sarah would be his.

Back at the company, Sarah busied herself with various tasks, suppressing the morning's events with a well-executed public relations strategy. She couldn't let one small mishap ruin everything.

After a long day, she decided to wait for Antonio in his office. As she thought about the upcoming anniversary event, she dialed the number of her best friend from university, Sofia Harris. They both lived in the same city, but Sofia had been assigned to work out of town and had only recently returned. The anniversary event would be a perfect opportunity for them to catch up.

"Oh, who is this calling me?" Sofia teased when she answered the phone. "It's the wife of Valencia Inc.'s CEO. No wonder there are so many magpies circling today."
