Chapter 493 I Regret Falling for You

CL Raceway.
The place she had prepared meticulously, hoping to surprise Antonio.
She surveyed the familiar surroundings, a place once held deep within her heart, even more sacred than their marital home.
Here, was a repository of her fondest affections, her youth, her memories.
"Do you see it? I've bought the raceway. I restored it to how it once was! All I could think about was how to earn your forgiveness, to start over with you. I've prepared everything, but what about you?"
"What were you thinking? You were thinking of leaving me, of never wanting to see me again!"
Antonio's roar shattered the silence of the deserted raceway, his broken voice echoing endlessly.
He wanted to ask Sarah, what would it take for her to choose to trust him again.
Why must she choose to leave, to give up on him?
All she had to do was say one word, and he would've been unconditionally devoted...
What did he even mean to her?!
What had he ultimately gained?
Always distrust, always filled with loathing!
Why?
Why did she have to treat him this way?
With trembling hands, Antonio pulled out a ring from his pocket. It was so polished that it gleamed blindingly in the sunlight.
"I found the ring again, Sarah. I dreamed that one day I could slip it back on your finger. I wanted to find the truth, to stand before you without any reservations, and to be with you forever."
"But Sarah, why do you have to treat me this way?"
As he spoke, tears streamed down Antonio's cheeks.
Sarah felt no stir of emotion as she listened to Antonio speak.
All she knew was that nothing Antonio did could change the fact that he wanted to control her.
Nor could it alter the fact that he was now using Brady's life as leverage against her!
His love was a burdensome shackle, a cage that could never be unlocked.
Such love suffocated her with its ferocity and cloaked in fear that chilled her to the bone.
Tears silently streamed down Sarah's cheeks; her voice so raspy that it tugged at the heartstrings.
"Antonio, when all is said and done, I'm just disappointed in you. No matter what you say or do, it won't change the inevitable end of us."
"You're tainted! How can a man who's been with another woman even dare to speak of loving me?"
The sun blazed overhead, but Sarah felt no warmth at all.
Her hands and feet were icy, and her eyes emitted a silent sorrow.
Never before had Sarah felt so breathless; it was like her tears were trapped within her eyelids, unable to fall.
"Sarah, I've told you, nothing happened between Serene and me. I've given you all the proof from the hospital, why won't you believe me? What do you want me to do? What proof do I have to show you for you to trust me?"
"It doesn't matter now... Nothing matters anymore. Antonio, you don't understand how much I regret. I regret giving in to my soft heart and agreeing to stay. I regret not listening to my brother and not leaving with him. I regret letting our three children recognize you as their father. I regret taking you back. I even regret ever meeting you in the first place!"
She regretted so much...
So very much...
Antonio watched Sarah silently, each of her regrets cutting into his heart like a sharp knife, over and over, into a heart that couldn't take any more pain.
Sarah was his life, the treasure he would sacrifice everything to keep.
She was his everything. Without her, even if Antonio possessed great wealth and everything in the world, it would all be meaningless.
But Sarah didn't know this.
Or perhaps, it was truer to say she never deemed it worthy of her attention.
For years, Antonio had waited, and finally, they had reached this point, only for her to speak of regret.
Antonio grasped Sarah's hand and led her, step by step, toward the break room.
His once warm gaze turned frosty, his tears transforming into the snowflakes of an avalanche, crushed pieces of glacier making it hard to breathe, eventually suffocating under the all-encompassing whiteness.
"Antonio, let me go! What are you thinking? What do you want to do? Do you need to drive me to hate you completely to be happy?"
Antonio gripped Sarah's hand tightly; his grasp an unbreakable shackle, forcefully controlling her every step.
"So, you regret it, huh? You can't see my commitment to you? You want to leave me?"
With force, Antonio flung Sarah onto the bed in the break room, tore off his jacket, and threw it on the floor with a harsh smack.
Sarah scrambled to escape; she would not allow herself to be dishonored like this.
But how could she, with her strength alone, break free from a furious Antonio?
Entering the lounge, Antonio pushed her onto the bed with one hand and hovered over her with a determined weight...
