Chapter 620 Non-consensual Kiss
Sarah said these words with her eyes cast down, making it hard to discern her emotions, but the weariness in her voice was evident when she said, "I hope you, Mr. Harrington, can keep your emotions and distance from me, after all, you are engaged, right!"
Benjamin snorted lightly, genuinely perplexed, but still retorted, "Your husband didn't just pass away today. I didn't see you keeping your distance before!"
Today.
Because before today, she had always held onto hope, hoping that he was still alive!
Sarah's lips trembled, filled with bitterness, and blamed herself, "Let's just say it's my fault, okay!"
She reached up to cover her face, trying to suppress all the painful emotions, hoping that after laying it all out with Benjamin, there would be no more entanglements in the future.
Sarah stubbornly admitted, "Mr. Harrington, I apologize to you. It was indeed because you resemble him so much, and since his body was never found, I thought... or I should say, I hoped you were him. That's why I kept getting closer to you, testing you. I was wrong, and please forgive me."
Thinking about all she had done before, Sarah felt both sad and ridiculous; she had deceived herself.
He was never him.
Antonio had left forever.
Watching her struggling demeanor, Benjamin's eyes, which seemed bottomless, grew colder, almost as if they had turned into glaciers in an instant.
Almost every word he uttered was squeezed out through gritted teeth, "So, what you're saying is, now that you've realized I can't be him, you want to end our relationship."
Sarah took a deep breath and said, "Yes, if you, Mr. Harrington, feel that you have suffered any losses during our time together, you can point them out, and I will compensate you."
She always knew that Benjamin was not someone to be trifled with; when he turned ruthless, he could be even more brutal than Antonio.
The two companies still cooperated for now, at least on the surface. Benjamin couldn't afford to offend him.
But Benjamin had already been thoroughly offended.
Sarah's honesty trampled on his pride.
She said she hoped he was her deceased husband, just to get close to him.
So Benjamin meant nothing to her!
Suddenly, he felt ridiculous; while Sarah was in turmoil, she only wished he were someone else!
Benjamin became extremely gloomy, and remarked without hiding his disappointment, "Ridiculous! Compensation?! Can you compensate?!"
Sarah had everything neatly sorted out and even wanted to compensate him. Benjamin lacked nothing for him to need her compensation!
Faced with his outburst, Sarah bit her lip and remained silent.
Seeing the woman on the sickbed looking resolute, Benjamin felt like she was driving him crazy!
"So, you don't see me as a stand-in for your husband, but rather, you wish I were your husband!" His eyes unknowingly turned bloodshot, visibly unable to contain his anger, and frustratedly questioned, "Then what am I to you!"
He wasn't even a stand-in!
So, after confirming her husband's death, she couldn't wait to draw a clear line between them!
It was simply absurd!
Benjamin felt his long-held self-control completely crumble at that moment; he had never been so thoroughly ignored by a woman!
He scoffed, "I, the President of Harrington Group, the heir of the Harrington family, am actually inferior to your husband, who has turned to ashes!"
His voice was filled with self-mockery and disbelief; to Sarah's ears, it was extremely grating.
She raised her eyes sharply, her gaze sharp as she scolded him, "Don't you dare speak of him like that!"
In her heart, no one could compare to Antonio!
"Don't?!" Benjamin sneered, "But he's dead, that's a fact!"
Driven by anger, he lost his senses and directly grabbed Sarah's shoulders, kissing her on the lips in front of her shocked eyes.
Sarah couldn't believe he dared to do such a thing!
This was still in the ward!
She struggled violently, pushing the person in front of her with all her might, "Benjamin, stop acting crazy here! I've already made myself clear. If you still continue like this, I will really call the police!"
Benjamin stared at her with a cold, piercing gaze, as if he hadn't heard her. Instead, he reached out and held her chin, speaking coldly and deliberately, "I remember telling you before that our relationship is not something you can end with just words! What I, Benjamin, want to do, no one can control!"
After speaking, he released Sarah, not too roughly.
His expression quickly returned to its initial arrogance, as if he were a born king.
Until Benjamin stormed out of the ward, Sarah remained stunned. She did not come back to her senses until tears welled up in her eyes, the light stinging her eyes painfully.
The familiar yet unfamiliar scent of that man surrounded her. Even the taste on her lips lingered for a long time.
That scent was completely different from Antonio's.
Sarah suddenly sat up from the sickbed and stumbled off it, her eyes filled with confusion and helplessness as if she had lost her way.
She couldn't do this! Antonio would definitely not be pleased.
Sarah rushed into the bathroom like a madwoman, took a while to find a toothbrush, and vigorously brushed her teeth and lips, not even feeling the pain if she drew blood from the excessive force she exerted into brushing her teeth.
It seemed that only by doing this could she wash away Benjamin's scent.
Her tears fell heavily into the sink, mixing with the rushing cold water, the sound of the water drowning out her sobs.
Her completely shattered emotions were left in the cramped bathroom.
Benjamin drove back to the company at full speed, the cold air that emanated from him made everyone who saw him shiver.
Daniel walked out of the pantry with a cup of coffee, not expecting his boss to return so quickly; he accidentally burned his hand.
Daniel greeted, "Mr. Harrington."
Benjamin gave him a cold glance, and instructed, "Inform all department heads, meeting in five minutes."
"Yes!" Daniel replied and instinctively tensed up, only relaxing when Benjamin passed by.
Beside him, another colleague gathered the courage to ask, "What exactly happened to Mr. Harrington? Seems like he got dumped by a woman!"
The last sentence was spoken cautiously, as if afraid of being overheard.
Daniel's face turned serious. He scolded his colleague, "Nonsense! Hurry and inform all department heads. We're meeting in five minutes. If you're late, think about the consequences yourselves."
Today, Mr. Harrington's bad mood made everyone at the meeting too afraid to breathe.
Isabella sat at the head of the conference room.
She had just heard everyone gossiping about how Mr. Harrington had returned looking gloomy, and no one knew where he had been or what had happened.
So, who did Benjamin go to see just now?
It must have been Sarah!
Benjamin's stern face appeared even more indifferent on the screen. He turned on his computer, and his icy, husky voice echoed in the conference room, announcing, "From now on, officially initiate the acquisition plan for the Valencia family and The Jerrett Group."
