Chapter 516 Mad Dog

After reading all the information, Sarah couldn't help but sigh.
She then knew what happened afterward.
After leaving her father, her mother married John Miller, and they adopted her brother Brady.
However, due to her frail health after childbirth, she didn't live to see Sarah start school.
After reading everything, Sarah still didn't understand why her mother decisively left her father.
Her confusion grew as she thought about her mother's silent longing afterwards, and how her father, even in his confused state of mind, still remembered Janet and never married again.
They undoubtedly loved each other.
Sarah guessed that perhaps... it was due to a misunderstanding.
Misunderstandings were indeed the most harmful thing in this world.
At this moment, Kevin coughed and slowly woke up.
He immediately realized that he was no longer in the hospital and became very excited, impulsively grabbing Sarah's hand and pleading, "Sweetheart, have I been discharged? Have I fully recovered? Can you take me to that park we went to last time? There are big geese in the lake; I didn't get a chance to feed them last time!"
"Alright." Sarah agreed reluctantly but felt happy to see him in good spirits.
She asked the doctor, and he said that it would be beneficial for her father's condition if he could get some fresh air.
Now that Sarah agreed, Kevin was overjoyed.
Just as Sarah was pushing Kevin out the door, a group of bodyguards crowded around and followed them closely, refusing to leave.
Sarah was a bit annoyed but considering they were there for protection, she tolerated it.
The weather was nice today, and there were many people in the park. Some were walking; some were playing badminton, and some were kicking shuttlecocks; it was bustling with activity.
Only Sarah and Kevin, followed by a group of ominous black-clothed men, seemed out of place.
Everyone instinctively gave way, afraid of offending someone they shouldn't.
Sarah felt extremely embarrassed, but Kevin was very content.
"These flowers are really beautiful; your mother loved places like this. When she was pregnant with you, she often said that she wanted to plant a patch of flowers outside our house."
While looking at the flower bed in front of him, memories of Janet sprang up in Kevin’s mind again.
This time, Sarah didn't just listen without speaking like before. She sat on the edge of the flower bed, massaging Kevin, and said, "Yes, Mom always loved gardening; there were so many flowers at home when I was a child."
"There was a time when I accidentally damaged Mom's orchid, and she punished me by not letting me have ice cream that night."
Kevin affectionately tapped Sarah's nose, "You always claim not to remember things from when you were little, but it seems like you remember quite a lot. I bet you even remember how your mom used to discipline you, don't you?"
Sarah playfully blinked her eyes, "Not at all. I remember Mom saying that her favorite treat was caramelized popcorn. She said when she was young, there was someone who always bought it for her."
Kevin laughed, "Yes, that person was me! She said she loved the smell of caramelized popcorn; she said it warmed her heart every time she smelled it. She even said that when she becomes rich one day, she'd buy all the caramelized popcorn in the world."
Gradually, both father and daughter's eyes welled up with tears; they truly missed the most important woman in their lives.
There was a small stand selling caramelized popcorn near the park.
On a whim, Sarah sniffed the air, "Dad, you wait here, okay? I'll go get you some caramelized popcorn."
Kevin nodded.
Sarah handed the wheelchair to the bodyguard to keep watch and got up to buy the popcorn.
The caramelized popcorn was indeed popular, so the line was quite long.
Sarah waited, occasionally looking back at Kevin in the distance.
Seeing him looking back at her, Sarah felt her heart grow warmer, just like the pot of caramelized popcorn.
But it seemed that such rare moments of peace were meant to be broken.
Before Sarah could reach the front of the line, she suddenly heard a chilling bark from behind that made her knees weak.
Worried, she turned around to see a large black dog, half as tall as a man, running out of the small woods, crazily heading towards Kevin.
The bodyguard was quick to react, hastily pushing Kevin away. But the dog, as if it had locked onto its target, followed Kevin and pursued him relentlessly.
The bodyguard, pushing Kevin, could not outrun the crazed beast and was knocked to the ground in an instant.
In fact, being knocked down was perhaps better, as at least he could restrain the dog from attacking Mrs. Valencia's father.
He struggled to fight off the mad dog, unaware... that Kevin's wheelchair had not been locked and was now rolling down the slope, heading straight for the lake.
Sarah was paralyzed for a moment, her mind struggling to comprehend what was happening. Then, as if a switch had been flipped, she began running towards Kevin at top speed.
But no matter how fast she ran, she seemed to be getting no closer. She watched in horror as Kevin's wheelchair continued its unstoppable descent into the lake.
She didn't even have time to scream and ran forward like a madwoman, her throat tasting of blood.
When she reached the lake, she gasped, "Dad! I'm coming to save you!" After saying this, she jumped into the water.
But just as she was mid-air, a pair of strong hands reached out and firmly grabbed her waist, pulling her back to the ground.
Then, everything went black before Sarah's eyes, followed by a splash!
Someone had jumped in!
