Chapter 777 He Is Waiting for Her
Marshall City Unity Health Center.
When Mary pushed open the ward door, she found Sarah lying on the bed with an IV in her hand.
Sarah's thick hair cascaded over her shoulders, framing her small, almost ethereal face, which was so pale it seemed translucent. She was leaning against the headboard with a sketchbook on her lap.
The hospital gown she wore made her look even more fragile.
"Sarah, are you okay?" Mary asked. She carefully sat at the bedside, her eyes downcast and filled with worry.
Just a moment ago, Sarah had been fine. But for some reason, shortly after hanging up Antonio's call, she suddenly started having contractions, breaking out in a cold sweat from the pain.
So Timothy immediately called an obstetrician to get her a room. After thinking it over, he decided to call Mary. After all, it was quite inconvenient for him to stay with Sarah.
In the end, after an extensive examination into the early morning, they couldn't identify the root cause. Perplexed, they attributed it to her physical condition, advising that Sarah needed rest and recuperation.
Sarah wasn't too worried. After all, the child in her womb had been through a lot with her.
She remembered when Antonio hadn't regained his memory yet, and they went to a hot spring hotel for an inspection, she even fell into a cave; there was nothing to worry about then, and there won't be anything now.
Sarah thought she was just overly worried recently. Now that Cynthia's surgery was done, and once Harold was caught, she would have no more concerns and could rest easy.
Seeing Mary so scared, Sarah began to comfort her. "It's okay. Let me tell you a secret. I actually have three other kids; back then, I was alone abroad and went through a lot, but everything turned out fine. It was much tougher then."
When Sarah talked about the past, her eyes grew distant and somewhat wistful.
Mary was even more surprised. She hadn't expected Sarah, so beautiful and young, to already have four children! She held Sarah's hand tightly, "Sarah, you're amazing! Don't worry, as long as you're in Marshall City, I'll be here with you, taking good care of you! Don't worry!"
Sarah was slightly stunned, but her heart warmed. Her smile deepened, and she placed her hand on Mary's. "Yes, it's really nice to know you."
With that exchange, they grew even closer.
Sarah had always treated Mary like a younger sister, speaking and acting with extra patience and tolerance.
Mary was smart and easily understood Sarah's boundaries, so she spoke directly.
"Is Mr. Valencia still busy?" Mary puffed her cheeks, clearly displeased.
'Sarah has been in such a dangerous situation, yet Antonio couldn't be there. If something happened...' Mary didn't dare to think further, a chill running down her spine. Compared to Mary's worried look, Sarah seemed way more chill, her eyes almost twinkling with amusement.
"He's busting his butt for our future too. We're in this together," Sarah said, her eyes sparkling. Even in a hospital gown, she still shone. "Mary, I can handle myself; Antonio doesn't need to be glued to my side all the time."
Antonio had his own stuff to deal with, and so did Sarah.
A few years back, Sarah might've freaked out during her first pregnancy with triplets. But now, being pregnant again, she felt her bond with Antonio had only gotten stronger through all the ups and downs. They trusted each other and were solid in their love.
Seeing the light in Sarah's eyes, Mary felt a pang of envy.
She squeezed Sarah's hand tighter and slumped, looking totally deflated.
Noticing the change, Sarah turned her attention to her.
Mary was young, and her feelings were written all over her face; it was clear that her troubled heart was tangled up with thoughts of Timothy.
But since Mary never admitted to having anything with Timothy, Sarah didn't pry.
With a playful smile, Sarah tousled her hair and looked at Mary, seeing a bit of her younger self. "It's really nice."
Mary, feeling like a sad kitten, slumped at the edge of the bed, smiling bitterly and speaking in a muffled voice. "What's so nice about it? Sarah, I envy you and Mr. Valencia, being in love and getting through so much without being torn apart."
Seeing her so down, Sarah tucked her hair behind her ear, revealing her delicate ear. "Mary, at your age, whether you act brave or hesitant, move forward or hold back, it's all part of the journey, not a mistake."
Sarah's eyes squinted with a warm, nostalgic smile.
Mary's at the perfect age to be fearless and take bold actions without worrying about the fallout.
"I don't think it's good. Sarah, your life is what's good." Mary still couldn't shake her gloom, her whole vibe radiating disappointment. She bit her lip, Timothy's face flashing in her mind again.
'I know Timothy can't forget his first love and I've even seen their love and the woman's departure. If it weren't for Kenneth, Timothy would've married his first love long ago and wouldn't have married me. Sometimes, I'm grateful Kenneth chose Timothy, but other times, it makes me sad. If Kenneth had picked someone else, Timothy might be happier. Timothy's choice to keep our marriage secret is because he's waiting for his first love. A secret marriage makes it easier for him to leave me and be with her. Even though we don't know if she'll ever come back, even if it's a hopeless wait, Timothy might still be willing,' Mary thought.
