Chapter 543 Antonio, Will You Come Back?

"I'm about to throw an engagement party with my fiancée, and I haven’t decided what gift to get her," Benjamin shattered all her illusions in a couple of sentences. "I saw your bracelet and thought it quite unique, and I’d like to pick out something suitable for my fiancée."

Sarah felt as if she'd fallen into an ice-cold pit, finally resigning her heart to the truth. "No... this bracelet was custom-made by my mother."

After Sarah spoke, she still subconsciously waited for Benjamin's reaction.

"That's a shame," he said impassively, though his expression showed none.

He just gave her a profound look, then stretched out his hand toward his assistant, who perceptively handed him an envelope-like item.

"My fiancée and I are scheduled to have our engagement party in three months. I hope you will grace the occasion with your presence."

Sarah looked at the invitation Benjamin had handed to her. It wasn't the traditional creme, but rather a dreamy blue base—a clear sign of meticulous design.

As she reached out to take it, her fingertips unintentionally brushed against Benjamin's, and she quickly retracted her hand as if shocked by electricity.

She felt his fingers were burning hot, almost scalding her, leaving a hollow ache in her chest. She heard her own voice responding distantly, "Alright... I will definitely be there."

"Then I'll take my leave for today, so I won't disturb your work," Benjamin said, rising to leave.

Sarah clutched the invitation tightly, still puzzled by the man's visit. Was it really just to deliver the invitation?

She kept a smile on her face, a twinkle in her eyes. "Okay... Take care, Mr. Harrington."

Benjamin nodded, his movements crisp as he adjusted his suit jacket.

His visit today wasn't just about delivering an invitation; it was to see if the rumors about the company he was planning to acquire were true—that it was operating at such a high level. As it turned out, he wasn't disappointed.

Despite her delicate appearance, Sarah had managed to keep the company running smoothly. Passing by the work area earlier, Benjamin could tell from the employees' work ethic that the company was efficient and capable. With this in mind, he knew that there would be no need to let these employees go after the acquisition.

Walking with her to the staircase, Benjamin offered a subtle smile and reached out his hand. "Ms. Miller, I hope we have the opportunity to collaborate in the future."

Sarah hesitated before accepting his hand. "Goodbye."

As Benjamin was about to walk away, he noticed a few strands of bright red on his palm.

Something caught in his throat, and he reflexively grabbed Sarah's wrist. "Are you hurt?"

Both were momentarily stunned. As Sarah looked down at her hand, she felt a surge of old emotions, as if memories from the past were overlapping with the present. Quickly, she withdrew her hand, concealing the scratch on its back.

He wasn't Antonio, and she knew there shouldn't be any unnecessary contact between them.

"It's nothing. Thank you for your concern, Mr. Harrington. I won't see you out."

Benjamin's hand released, and his brows furrowed while the light dimmed in his deep-set eyes. He paused, lingering on his palm for a moment before rubbing it, as if attempting to erase the unfamiliar warmth.

What had come over him just now?

"Sorry," Benjamin's voice seemed to carry a chill. "I lost my composure just now. I hope Ms. Miller isn't offended."

"Don't worry, I'm not." Sarah shook her head, casting her eyes down to hide the moisture brimming in them. "Take care on your way, Mr. Harrington."

"Sure."

Benjamin's gaze briefly met the crown of her head before quickly shifting away.

The elevator arrived just in time, and without another word, Benjamin stepped in with long strides.

As the elevator doors closed, Sarah finally breathed deeply, as if she had just been rescued from drowning. She felt a sharp pain where her palm had been clenched too tightly.

Suddenly, Sarah wondered if the pain was contagious, as a sharp ache gripped her abdomen. As she placed the hand holding the invitation over her belly, her face paled. "My baby..."

James, carrying some documents, happened to pass by and was startled by the sight, hastily rushing over to support her. "Ms. Miller!"

"I'm okay..." Sarah said, standing up with James' support. The pain in her abdomen subsided, but her face remained ashen.

She waved James off. "You go ahead, I just need to rest a bit."

But James was still worried. "Ms. Miller, if the pain gets too severe, you really should visit the hospital... After all, it's not just you to think about now. We can't afford any complications."

If Antonio were around and knew about this, he'd probably be heartbroken.

"Yeah." Sarah managed a weak smile. "I understand."

Maybe the baby inside her longed for its father just as much as she did... wondering where he could be, whether he was still in this world.

This child... surely wanted to see their dad upon coming into this world.

'So Antonio... can you hear me? Please come back, will you?'
