Chapter 942 Eden is Still Here
Sarah never thought she'd have to deal with him again, especially not so soon. She felt a bit awkward. "What a coincidence... But I should be asking you that. What are you doing here?"
Bob's eyes flickered slightly. "I had a project nearby. Nia saw a bunch of kids and wanted to join in... I didn't expect to run into you."
In truth, he knew the Valencia Family-sponsored orphanage was hosting an event here. Sarah, being the kind person she was, would definitely attend.
And he was right.
"I see..."
Sarah looked at the baby in the stroller, who was as cute as a button, sucking on a pacifier. Her heart softened inexplicably.
Just as she was at a loss for words, Bob's phone rang.
He answered it and listened for a moment, his expression turning serious.
He hung up the phone.
"Sarah, there's an urgent issue with my project. Could you help me watch Nia for a bit? It's not convenient for me to take her to meet with the clients."
Sarah instinctively wanted to refuse, but when she saw the innocent and adorable look in the child's eyes, she found herself nodding.
She couldn't just ignore such a beautiful baby.
"Sure... There are plenty of kids here anyway. I can keep an eye on her."
Bob gave her a deep look. "My sister is usually very shy and doesn't let just anyone hold her. It's clear she likes you a lot. Thanks, Sarah."
With that, he hurried off.
Sarah watched his retreating figure and then realized what she had agreed to. She felt a bit regretful.
Why did she agree to watch his child?!
She had promised herself to keep her distance...
But how could she ignore such a tiny baby?
She sighed and looked down at Nia in the stroller.
"Your name is Nia?"
Nia blinked, as if greeting her.
In that moment, Sarah felt her heart sink, completely melting away.
She couldn't help but lean down and pick up the small child, feeling an inexplicable connection. She stared at her for a while, her eyes welling up with tears.
If her daughter were still alive, she would be about Nia's age, just as lovable...
Sarah played with her, a loving smile spreading across her face.
After more than two hours, Bob finally returned.
Before he even got close, he saw Sarah gently rocking the little girl on a nearby bench. The sunlight seemed to cast a halo around her, making the scene unbelievably beautiful.
Sarah felt a heated gaze and looked up to see Bob staring at her intently. She felt a bit uneasy.
"You're back?" She stood up with Nia in her arms, her smile polite but distant. "Did you finish your business? She was very well-behaved."
"Yeah, it's all done."
Bob walked over, trying to control his emotions, and smiled. "Thanks, Sarah."
Sarah shook her head and handed the child back to him. "It was no trouble."
Her eyes lingered on Nia's face, with a hint of reluctance she didn't even notice.
Nia seemed to sense something and clung to Sarah's necklace, refusing to let go, and started crying.
"Nia, sweetie... You need to go back to your brother."
Nia cried even louder.
Bob's eyes were full of tenderness as he looked at Sarah. "Looks like Nia really likes you. She's never been like this with anyone else."
"I like her too..."
But with Bob standing right there, it felt a bit awkward for Nia to be clinging to her necklace.
She sighed and gently coaxed, "Nia, do you like my necklace? How about I give it to you as a gift?"
Nia's face was still tear-streaked, but she seemed to understand.
Sarah took off the necklace and placed it in Nia's hand.
"But this is just a toy, okay? You can't put it in your mouth."
Nia's big, watery eyes blinked as if responding.
With something to play with, she finally calmed down.
Sarah carefully placed her back in Bob's arms and hesitated before saying, "It's getting windy outside. If you're done with your business, you should take her home soon. It's not good for her to be out too long."
"Alright, thank you so much, Sarah. About the necklace..."
"I said it's a gift for her. Let her keep it."
Neither of them noticed a car parked not far away.
Antonio, tall and imposing, got out of the car and saw Sarah "chatting" with another man.
This wouldn't do.
Antonio's brows furrowed, and he walked over in a few strides.
"Bob? What are you doing here?"
Both turned at the sound of his voice. Bob's tender expression vanished instantly, replaced by a cold demeanor. "Is this your property?"
Sensing the tension, Sarah quickly pulled Antonio aside. "He just happened to be working nearby and stopped to say hello."
"Really?" Antonio's eyes flashed with suspicion. "That seems a bit too coincidental."
"Where I choose to be isn't something I need to explain to Mr. Valencia."
Bob didn't want to waste another word on him. He turned to Sarah, who looked a bit embarrassed, and said gently, "Sarah, I'll take Nia home now. Take care... We'll talk next time."
With that, he walked away with the stroller.
Antonio watched him leave, seething. "Next time?"
Sarah was exasperated.
She found it both frustrating and amusing. "I've made it clear to him. He's just being childish. Honey, be the bigger person and let it go, okay?"
Antonio gave her a long look. "Holding a child is childish?"
"Then I promise to avoid him next time, okay?"
Antonio's face remained stern, but he said nothing.
"I was just helping him watch the child. You saw her, right? If our Eden were still here, wouldn't she be just as adorable?"
Hearing the sadness in her voice, Antonio couldn't stand it. He sighed silently.
"Eden is still with us... just in a different form. Don't dwell on it."
"Then you shouldn't dwell on it either." Sarah took a deep breath, holding his hand. "You should trust me. I already have you. No other man could ever catch my eye, right? You need to have confidence in your own charm."
