Chapter 631 Forget Love, Focus on Career!
Sofia enthusiastically stated, "Just in time, H City is hosting a high-society cocktail party in the next few days, and Virgil will definitely attend. Such a coincidence, we must try our luck."
This was a golden opportunity that concerned the fate of the Valencia family.
Sarah resolutely looked up, and said, "Let's go!"
Early the next morning, Sarah and Sofia arranged to meet at the airport.
She had taken care of all the company matters, gave detailed instructions to Harper and the others, and then had Bob drive her to the airport.
Sofia was waiting at the security checkpoint.
Sofia called out, excitedly, "Sarah, over here!"
Sarah responded, taking the suitcase from Bob's hand, and said, "You can go back now, drive carefully, and call me if anything comes up at the company."
Bob glanced back and said, "Alright."
He watched the two walk into the security checkpoint before turning to leave.
Sofia looked back, full of curiosity, saying, "Isn't your friend Bob a bit too concerned about you? I feel like something's off with him!"
"You're the one who's off!" Sarah helplessly patted her, explaining, "Bob is my assistant, and it's part of his job."
Sofia helplessly replied, "You're right."
Although she said that, Sofia still felt that Bob's gaze was not quite right. No assistant would keep staring at their boss like that and his eyes were practically overflowing with affection!
Sarah didn't want to discuss this any further and asked, "By the way, did you tell Alex about going to H City with me?"
Sofia was taken aback, her expression suddenly quieting.
She forced a smile and evasively said, "I told him, I guess."
Whether she told him or not didn't really matter.
Ever since their last unpleasant encounter, they had been giving each other the cold shoulder, not contacting or even seeing each other much.
Any couple who just started dating would not act like this.
Sofia had been trying to force herself not to think about it, but hearing Sarah mention him made her feel a bit aggrieved.
Why should she care about that?!
Alex didn't contact her, clearly, he didn't care about her! Why should she tell him where she's going?!
Sofia lowered her eyes, the more she thought about it, the more aggrieved she felt, her eyes getting warm, but luckily her hair covered it, so Sarah couldn't see.
She couldn't help but think about her upcoming birthday.
When she and Alex first got together, they had seriously discussed how to celebrate her birthday.
Alex even said he would prepare a surprise for her.
Now it seemed as though he had probably forgotten all about it!
If he forgot, so be it, she didn't care anymore! Why waste time on him?! She might as well help Sarah with her career!
Sarah sensed something was off with Sofia's mood and wanted to ask, but it was their turn for a security check, so she had to put it aside for now.
After the security check, Sofia smiled again.
Sarah looked at her suspiciously, and probed, "Sofia, are you okay?"
"I'm fine!" Sofia quickly composed herself, pointing to a brand store ahead, and said with a smile, "Let's go check out that store. There's a bag I really like, I wonder if they still have it in stock."
Seeing her so enthusiastic, Sarah didn't say anything more.
Two hours later, their plane landed at H City's airport, and the hotel had sent a car to pick them up.
Once in the car, Sofia was glued to her phone. After a while, she looked up, excitedly sharing her success with Sarah, "Got it! I thought Virgil wouldn't respond, but he actually agreed to have lunch with us!"
Since she had once been engaged to Virgil, she naturally had his contact information. Both of them had been uninterested in a business marriage, so they had mutually agreed not to stay in touch.
Who knew it would come in handy now?!
Sarah understood, and calmly asked, "You were chatting with him just now?"
"Yeah!" Sofia waved her phone, saying, "I'm beautiful and interesting so I can turn a marriage prospect into a friend!"
Sarah beamed and hugged her, "Thank you, beautiful and interesting Ms. Sofia. Without you, I wouldn't know what to do."
Her words were heartfelt, and Sofia pinched her cheek.
Sofia coyly replied, "You're my darling, of course I'll help you!"
Laughing and chatting, they arrived at the hotel, after freshening up and changing clothes, they headed out to their appointment.
Sarah inquired, anxiously, "Does your marriage prospect have any particular dislikes?"
On the way, Sarah couldn't help but feel a bit nervous and wanted to know more about Virgil's preferences.
Sofia thought for a moment and answered, "Not really! Actually, I don't know."
She patted Sarah's hand reassuringly, and calmly said, "Relax, as long as we're sincere, that's all that matters. Whether or not to invest, Virgil will have his considerations."
In other words, just be yourself and leave the rest to fate.
Sarah took a deep breath to steady herself, saying, "I'll do my best."
The outcome was better than expected, Virgil was quite easygoing and very gentlemanly.
With a faint smile, he said, "Sofia, you haven't changed a bit after all this time."
"I've clearly gotten prettier." Sofia was adept at handling such situations and naturally made small talk, "But you too, if I had known, I wouldn't have hesitated to be with you that I wouldn't have to work hard anymore."
It was an obvious joke, and all three laughed.
Virgil's gaze fell on Sarah, and politely inquired, "And this is?"
"Right!" Sofia swallowed her water, saying, "This is the friend I told you about."
"My good friend, Sarah." She gave Sarah a meaningful look as she continued, "I've already briefed you on the situation, but I'm not an expert in this area. She needs to explain it to you, which is why we rushed over to meet you."
Sarah then took out the project proposal and succinctly explained the main points. Virgil seemed quite satisfied, nodding thoughtfully as he flipped through it.
After a while, he nodded and said, "I can consider investing, but I need to do more research."
Sarah was stunned because she hadn't expected things to go so smoothly.
