Chapter 485 Scolding
Serene paused for a moment, feigning shock. "Sarah! What happened?"
Sarah felt even more disgusted and retorted, "What do you think?"
Serene believed Sarah was upset about her sharing a bed with Antonio and couldn't help but feel a twinge of satisfaction. She knew this incident would mark the end of Sarah and Antonio's relationship.Even if they pretended nothing had happened, the emotional barrier had been created, and she didn't believe they could live together peacefully!
With a laugh, Serene said understandingly, "Sarah, I know you're upset, and I know you can't let go of what happened between me and Antonio. But all I can do now is apologize. Just like he said, nothing happened between us. Does that make you feel any better?"
Sarah almost laughed out of anger. At a time like this, Serene was still thinking about her and Antonio?!
"Serene, I really don't understand how you can be so heartless. Do you see nothing else in life besides stealing someone else's husband?
"Do you realize your father almost had an incident early this morning? It's bad enough you haven't come to visit him properly, but you don't even ask about his everyday care?
"You're truly disgusting."
Sarah ranted, venting her frustration about Kevin's plight and her resentment towards Serene. She felt a sense of relief after scolding her.
Serene took a while to respond. While gnashing her teeth, she said, "W-What are you talking about? Sarah, aren't you being too much? Did you call me early in the morning just to scold me?"
Sarah scoffed coldly. "If you still acknowledge that you're a Jerrett, then get to the hospital quickly. Your father has been injected with an unknown drug and is on the brink of death!"
After hearing this, Serene broke out in a cold sweat, realizing that her scheme to drug Kevin had been exposed!
After hanging up, Serene angrily threw her phone onto the bed!
How could this be? How could Sarah even find out about this?!
Sarah was truly a thorn in her side!
Serene forced herself to take a deep breath to calm down, then began to think.
The drug incident had been discovered, but she hadn't been to the hospital these past few days. As long as the person who drugged him wasn't found, no one would suspect her for the time being.
After all, which daughter would harm her own "dearly loved father"?
She could easily redirect the focus of this incident to the shareholders of the J&kGroup and let them bear the consequences.
Serene's primary concern was why Sarah had visited Kevin in the middle of the night and stumbled upon the incident.
Now with Brady in a coma and such a deep misunderstanding between Sarah and Antonio, Sarah shouldn't be involved in these matters.
Could it be... she found some clues? Or, had the bracelet affair been exposed?!
Numerous thoughts raced through Serene's mind, preventing her from calming down.
'No, this won't do!'
With a fierce look in her eyes, Serene threw off the covers, got dressed, wrapped herself up tightly from head to toe, and headed out to the hospital.
At the hospital…Sarah remained vigilant by Kevin's bedside. As she looked at the frail old man on the bed, a wave of sorrow surged within her. No matter what Serene did, Sarah never allowed her feelings of resentment to extend to Kevin.
In her heart, after having spent so much time together, this old man was no longer the aloof chairman of the J&K Group; he was a kind, benevolent, and pitiable elder.
The mere thought that someone would harm such a defenseless old man filled Sarah with indignation. Kevin was in such a state, and yet there were still those who wished him dead.
Serene, his own daughter, had barely visited the hospital since Kevin's condition worsened, preoccupied with her own trivial matters every day.
Sarah pondered the injustice of life—she longed for a father but couldn't have one, while Serene had such a wonderful father yet neglected him.
Sighing, Sarah tucked the blanket around Kevin. She would be leaving soon, so she wanted to help him as much as she could in these last few days.
Suddenly, Kevin opened his eyes, but his consciousness seemed to remain mired in grogginess. His gaze was empty as he stared at the ceiling, causing Sarah's heart to skip a beat.
"Dad, you're awake. Are you feeling any discomfort?" Sarah asked softly, holding Kevin's hand.
However, Kevin did not respond for a long time. He turned his gaze to Sarah, his eyes brimming with tears.
Sensing that Kevin wanted to say something, Sarah leaned in closer. "Dad, what do you want to say?"
Kevin seemed agitated. He mumbled a few sounds, but his speech was unclear due to the effects of the medication, and he even drooled a bit from the effort.
Seeing this, Sarah quickly comforted him, "It's okay, let's not talk now, alright? Rest well now, and we can talk after you wake up."
But Kevin shook his head repeatedly, looking very anxious.
Sarah's heart ached as she reassured him, "Don't worry, I won't leave. I'll stay with you."
Hearing this, Kevin finally calmed down and fell into a deep sleep.
An hour had elapsed since Sarah's conversation with Serene. Despite being his biological daughter, Serene hadn't bothered to call back to ask about his well-being, nor had she considered sending someone from the Jerrett household staff to accompany him to the hospital.
These thoughts only deepened Sarah's disdain for Serene's character.
Once Kevin had drifted into a peaceful slumber, Sarah released his hand and tiptoed to the restroom. There, she fetched some hot water and tenderly dabbed his face clean.
Glancing at the clock, she realized it was time for her rounds. Quietly, she made her way to Brady's room on the opposite side.
No sooner had she left than Serene, wrapped up and moving quickly, appeared at the end of the hallway.
Serene observed quietly from the corner as Sarah made her way back to Brady's room. It was only then that she lowered her hat brim and began to head towards Kevin's room. However, before she could approach, she spotted four burly bodyguards stationed around his door.Sarah had arranged for extensive security detail at the hospital, to the extent that even nurses and doctors seeking access to the room were subjected to thorough scrutiny by the vigilant bodyguards.With such precautions in place, Serene couldn't possibly get in!
