Chapter 90 The Conflict Between Antonio and Alex
Seeing Harper spill the beans, Sarah decided to cut her some slack, even though her emotions were all over the place.
They'd gone through all this trouble just for her.
She wasn't ungrateful, just thought it was overkill.
All she wanted was to ditch Antonio, and he wasn't someone you messed with lightly. If he got really pissed, things could get ugly!
Luckily, nothing major had gone down yet. Sarah let out a tiny sigh, gently patted Harper's head, and said, "Harper, next time, don't just act on a whim. Talk to me first, okay?"
After Harper promised a bunch of times, Sarah finally felt a bit better and took her back to the meeting room. But as soon as she walked in, she knew something was off.
The room still had that tense vibe from a recent blow-up, and Antonio and Alex looked like they were ready to kill someone. James was huddled in a corner, and when he saw her, he gave her this desperate look.
Sarah was confused. Everything was cool just a few minutes ago; what the heck happened?
Did their talk go south?
Antonio glanced at Sarah and then said to Alex, "I've made myself clear, you can go."
Alex nodded, got up, and said, "Fine, I'll just tell the president the truth."
Antonio snorted, not even looking at Alex.
Only Harper thought the meeting was over!
She happily waved her hand. "Are you guys done? Can we go eat something yummy now?"
Alex smiled at Harper. "What do you want to eat? I'll take you."
Hearing this, Antonio's lips tightened, and he shot a cold look at Alex.
Twenty minutes later, they rolled up to the fanciest Chinese restaurant in town.
Harper was over the moon, her chubby face glowing with excitement.
Today was just too awesome!
Antonio, Sarah, and Alex were all here. If only Brian and Ethan were here too, it would be perfect!
Antonio's face stayed cold, his eyes occasionally darting to Sarah and Alex.
They got a private room, and Alex, being all gentlemanly, pulled out a chair for Sarah.
"Thanks." Sarah smiled and thanked him, not even glancing at Antonio, missing the icy look in his eyes.
Alex then helped Harper into a chair before sitting down and starting to order.
The waiter suggested, "The fish today is super fresh. You might want to try it."
Alex shook his head. "Thanks, but she doesn't like fish with too many bones, especially with a kid here."
He glanced at Sarah with a gentle look, then ordered a few more dishes.
Sarah smiled lightly, closed the menu, and when she looked up, her eyes met a pair of fierce, menacing ones, making her smile freeze.
Antonio asked coldly, "Aren't you gonna order something?"
Sarah raised an eyebrow and said, "Alex already ordered for me."
Hearing this, the temperature around Antonio seemed to drop even more.
Harper said, "Alex, I want some juice."
Alex poured her a glass. "Sure thing."
Watching this, Antonio's brows furrowed even tighter. They were really close; he even knew her likes and dislikes, and Harper was so attached to Alex. It was clear they'd spent a lot of time together abroad.
Thinking about how close Sarah and Alex had been over the past five years.
Sarah noticed the tension radiating from Antonio. She glanced at Alex, who seemed calm, but she could still feel the tension between them.
In moments like this, it was best to keep a low profile.
Antonio shot a sarcastic remark, "Looks like you two are pretty tight. You know her likes and dislikes so well."
Alex glanced at Sarah with a mix of affection and pity. "Sarah's been living abroad with Harper for years. It's been tough. And since I'm pursuing her, I naturally look out for her."
He said it like it was no big deal, but Antonio was fuming. He sneered, "Thanks for taking care of my wife all these years."
A dark look flashed in Alex's eyes. "No need to thank me. Taking care of her is my job."
He then picked up a shrimp and placed it in front of Harper. "Harper, you need to eat more."
Harper looked up from her food and mumbled, "Thanks, Alex!"
Her squinty smile was seriously annoying Antonio.
Was Alex trying to win Harper over to get closer to Sarah?
Antonio glanced at the dishes on the table, picked a piece of beef for Harper, and then another, "Eat more beef. It's good for you."
Though his words were caring, his expression was anything but.
The vibe among the adults was super tense, with only little Harper happily munching away. Looking at the pile of food on her plate, she felt delighted and ate even more happily.
With Alex here, Antonio was acting all different, even learning to take care of her!
Maybe she should use Alex to provoke Antonio more often in the future!
As for Sarah, the core of their conflict, she had no appetite at all.
Caught in the middle of this silent battlefield, she suddenly lost her desire to eat. "Excuse me, I need to go to the restroom."
With that, Sarah got up and went to the restroom, temporarily leaving the battlefield.
Sarah stayed in the restroom for a few minutes, splashing cold water on her face to keep her cool.
After getting her head straight, she left the restroom, but after just a few steps, someone blocked her path.
It was Antonio, his face dark, looking down at her with a few traces of displeasure in his voice. "Have you been with Alex these past five years?"
Sarah looked at Antonio blocking her way, feeling utterly speechless. She coldly replied, "Does it have anything to do with you?"
She was annoyed and didn't want to argue with him.
After saying this, she turned to leave, not wanting to deal with him. But the next second, Antonio grabbed her wrist, pressing her against the wall.
Sarah shouted, "Antonio, what are you doing? This is a restaurant!""
Antonio looked down at Sarah, his eyes filled with anger. "You're my wife. How can it have nothing to do with me?"
Before Sarah could respond, Antonio sneered. "You all planned this together?"
Sarah said, "I don't know what you're talking about."
Sarah knew Antonio was referring to the company's cooperation, but she had just learned the truth herself. She wasn't involved in this, but Harper and Alex had indeed planned it together. However, Antonio deserved it!
Seeing her denial, Antonio thought of the third level Alex had proposed today and laughed angrily. "Designing those ridiculous challenges, and the last one wants me to publicly apologize and admit to cheating. Sarah, you went to all this trouble just for this? Or do you want a divorce and planned it all?"
Sarah was momentarily stunned by his words!
So, this was the third level.
A fleeting smile crossed her eyes, but she quickly regained her cold demeanor. "You think you're so smart, don't you? I'll say it again, I didn't know about this. All I want is a divorce agreement!"
"You're so eager to divorce me just to be with Alex?"
"You..."
Before she could retort, Antonio sneered, "Forget it. Even if you die, you'll be buried with me!"
With that, Antonio lowered his head and kissed Sarah's lips. It was more of a bite than a kiss!
He wanted to crush her and merge her into his very being.
Sarah wanted to kick him, but he held her so tightly she couldn't move. Antonio was truly despicable!
