Chapter 110 Alex Is Leaving
Meanwhile, over at the biggest party spot in town, Antonio knocked back the rest of his drink like it was water.
His usually perfect short hair was all messed up. He yanked at his tie and popped open a button on his shirt.
The dim lighting in the VIP room threw weird shadows on Antonio's face, making him look even more intense and broody.
Across from him, Ares was chilling on the couch, legs kicked up, looking like he didn't have a care in the world.
He shot Antonio a curious look, a smirk playing on his lips. "Yo, Mr. Valencia, hitting the bottle? That's not your style!"
"Shut it," Antonio snapped, his eyes narrowing in annoyance.
He slammed his glass on the table and reached for the bottle.
Ares raised an eyebrow, snatched the bottle, and poured him another drink. "What's up, man? Who's got you all twisted? Spill, and I'll handle...!"
Before he could finish, Antonio shot him a glare so cold it could freeze hell over, making Ares almost choke on his words.
"Just trying to lighten the mood, bro," Ares said, dropping the jokes. "I'm your last bro standing. You better cherish me!"
Antonio ignored him, downing his drink in one go.
Ares poured himself a drink too, swirling it around as he kept an eye on Antonio.
He'd seen this scene play out five years ago.
Back then, Antonio was drowning his sorrows when Sarah went missing. Now that she was back, what was the deal?
Did they have a fight?
Thinking about it, Ares raised an eyebrow and teased, "Mr. Valencia, isn't it great that Mrs. Valencia is back?"
Antonio's hand froze, but he kept his lips sealed, his face getting even darker.
Ares was sure it had something to do with Sarah. Just as he was about to dig deeper, Antonio spoke up, "Philip's back."
Ares was stunned, his smile vanishing, and his face turned serious.
Philip had been living abroad forever and wouldn't come back unless something big was going down.
Given Philip's past antics, Ares was worried. "Is he messing with you?"
Antonio's eyes clouded over as he took another swig, not saying a word, looking even more lost and frustrated.
Seeing him like this, Ares pushed, "Don't leave me hanging. Why's Philip back? Need my help?"
Philip was always a weirdo, especially towards Antonio, never showing him any love.
But Antonio could usually handle anything.
This time, though, something had him really messed up.
Ares thought for a second, then asked, "Is Philip giving Sarah a hard time?"
As soon as he said it, Antonio's eyes darkened even more, a flicker of pain crossing his face.
Antonio said, "He wants me to marry Lisa and give Ryan everything he deserves."
That one sentence made the whole room feel like a freezer.
Ares got it—Philip was making Antonio choose between the Valencia family and Sarah.
After a long pause, Ares set his glass down. "No disrespect to Philip, but he's seriously crossing the line. Now he's messing with your marriage? You gonna let that slide?"
Ares was genuinely backing Antonio up!
He knew all about the drama between Antonio and Philip.
Unlike Ares's fiery reaction, Antonio just gave a faint, self-mocking smile. Some things were just bound to drag him through hell.
Antonio sighed, "It was my fault back then. I gotta own up to it."
Ares shot back, "I get that, but what if Sarah doesn't get it and bails again?"
Antonio's face turned ice-cold, his eyes steely with determination. "No way."
The dim light made his chiseled face look even more resolute, wiping away the gloom and replacing it with sheer determination.
His hand tightened around the glass, and Antonio said, "I won't let her leave me again."
No freaking way!
When Antonio got back to the villa, it was already the crack of dawn.
He planned to change clothes and head to the office, but he stumbled upon something important.
The villa was quiet, with only the maids doing their thing.
Antonio walked in, holding his suit jacket, his shirt and tie all messed up, bangs hanging over his forehead, and a layer of gloom on his handsome face, giving him a kind of rugged charm.
His deep eyes, hazy from the booze, were still determined, making him look even more captivating.
To avoid waking Sarah and the kids, he tiptoed through the house, but as he passed Harper's room, he heard crying.
Antonio's brows furrowed, worry flashing across his face. What was going on?
Just as he was about to open the door, he heard Harper's voice, talking to someone, and his hand froze mid-air.
Through the door, Harper's intermittent sobs reached Antonio's ears, sounding super pitiful.
"Alex, why the rush to leave? I've got more to share. We haven't even gone to eat delicious food together. I really don't want you to go."
Inside the room, Harper sat on her bed, hair a mess, crying her eyes out.
Just a few minutes ago, she had woken up and hadn't even had time to wash up when she got Alex's farewell call.
She immediately burst into tears.
Clutching her teddy bear tightly, she plaintively complained, "Alex, why'd you leave so fast? Why didn't you take me with you?"
Even though she didn't really want to leave, she was just so sad.
She sniffled her red nose and asked, "What about your collaboration? Are we not doing it anymore? How can you just leave like that? Weren't you supposed to stay here for a while? It's only been a few days, and you're already leaving."
Antonio heard everything.
Outside the door, his deep eyes darkened, the haze replaced by a probing look.
Alex was leaving?
Through the crack in the door, he saw Harper was alone.
And in the whole villa, there was no sign of Sarah.
Where had she gone?
Could she be with Alex right now?
