Chapter 550 This Woman is Too Enigmatic

Sarah quickly stepped forward to pull Harper away, her eyes red and shimmering.

"Mr. Harrington… I'm so sorry, the kids don't understand. I hope you won't hold this against them."

She quickly averted her gaze after speaking, crouching down to meet Ethan and Harper's eyes. "Ethan, Harper…"

Sarah tenderly held the hands of the two children, her eyes moist with tears.

Choking back the rising sorrow with a husky voice, she said, "You've made a mistake, this isn't Daddy…"

Though, how she wished he was.

Benjamin still stood there, straightening his disheveled clothes. Then, he lifted his gaze, observing the woman crouching before her two children.

As the sky darkened, streetlights flickered to life one by one. Bathed in their warm glow, Sarah seemed to wear a faint halo. A gentle breeze tousled strands of hair across her face, her dried tears and swollen eyes betraying a fragile vulnerability.

This was the first time Benjamin really saw the beauty of this woman.

His deep-sea eyes sparkled with broken light, and Sarah's profile sketched an unforgettable image in them.

Meanwhile, Harper and Ethan were still caught up in their excitement, but hearing their mom's words, they exchanged a confused look, not understanding.

How could it not be him?

They saw with their own two eyes—he was clearly their father!

After waiting and searching for so long, how could it be that upon his return, they were told it wasn't true? It seemed utterly impossible!

Harper wondered if perhaps her parents were playing some kind of game. Was it their idea to deceive the kids and then spring a surprise on them later?

She blinked her large eyes several times, shifting her gaze between Benjamin and Sarah, without saying another word.

Ethan was also silently exchanging looks with his sister, conveying messages without speaking a word.

Sarah had assumed the children had absorbed the news and felt a wave of relief. Taking one child by each hand, she stood up, her heart settling into a calmer rhythm.

"Mr. Harrington, I'm terribly sorry... your clothes are dirty now," she said, glancing at the stain on Benjamin's trousers.

Embarrassment washed over her. For a man of his stature, someone who likely preferred cleanliness, having Ethan and Harper clinging to his legs, crying for so long, probably left a mess of tears and snot...

Benjamin's eyes flickered, but his expression remained unchanged. "It's no problem.

"The kids are quite adorable," he remarked as his gaze swept from Ethan to Harper, eventually settling on Sarah. "Ms. Miller, it's getting late. If there's nothing else, I should be heading back."

Before Sarah could respond, Harper and Ethan broke free from her grasp and rushed to Benjamin.

"Daddy, it's so late! Where are you going if not home?!"

"Yeah, Daddy! Come home with us! We really miss you—don't you miss us?"

The two kids, one on each side, grabbed Benjamin, shaking his large hands, their big eyes brimming with longing.

Sarah, caught between embarrassment and helplessness, tried to intervene. "Ethan, Harper, don't do this..."

She had thought they understood what she had explained earlier.

Sarah sighed silently and reached out to pull the children back when she heard the man's deep, resonant voice. "Alright."

Sarah's head snapped up, only to see Benjamin being led away by the two children toward the villa.

She was incredulous. What was this man up to?

Illuminated by the streetlight, she noticed the man's steadfast silhouette bearing a striking resemblance to Antonio...

If only Benjamin really were Antonio, how wonderful would that be?

The villa was quiet; Kevin and Ryan, both in poor health, had gone to bed early. The living room was lit up with a warm glow, and the whole house's decor and layout exuded a strong sense of home.

Benjamin surveyed the room with an impassive gaze until he stumbled over a toy dinosaur.

Just as he bent down to pick it up, Ethan came running over, beaming with excitement. "Daddy! I knew you wouldn't forget! This is my favorite dinosaur!"

Benjamin's expression paused for a moment, and he handed the dinosaur to Ethan.

Harper came bouncing over. "Daddy, come sit down! I want to show you the origami cranes we folded. Mommy taught us! They look so pretty!"

Ethan was reminded of the cranes and left the dinosaur to the side. He and his sister worked together to pull their father to the couch. Then, they retrieved a large, clear jar from the cabinet beneath the coffee table.

"Did you guys fold all these?" Benjamin asked.

Benjamin had never had much experience with kids. His movements and expressions were somewhat stiff, but he wasn't averse to it. Looking at the jar filled with colorful paper cranes, he felt a surprising warmth.

He didn't know why he had blurted out the word "good" earlier.

Maybe… it was because Sarah was a woman he couldn't quite figure out.

Even before the acquisition and the dealings with the J&K, he had thoroughly investigated her, the CEO.

"Yeah!" Ethan and Harper couldn't wait to open the jar and show their father the cranes.

"We fold them every morning when we wake up! My brother says that each crane can carry a wish, so we make one every day, wishing for Daddy to stay healthy and come back to us soon!" Harper said with a soft, tender voice that seemed to blossom warmth in one's heart, dispelling all worries.

Her eyes were full of pride. Turning to see Sarah at the doorway, she darted over with tiny steps. "Mommy, come quick!"

Ethan called out from the other side, "We're showing Daddy the paper cranes!"

Sarah was coaxed into the living room and, whether by intention or not, Harper guided her to sit next to Benjamin.

Though there was space between them on the couch, it almost felt like they could sense each other's presence.

Sarah's heart rhythm was disrupted, sitting there restlessly.

Part of her wanted to drive this man out of her and Antonio's house.

Yet another, sadder emotion filled her. If it had not been for Benjamin's arrival, Sarah didn't know when she would get to see this face that she had longed for, day and night...
